It states at the end of the letter -
'For the purposes of the Financial Ombudsman Scheme you may consider this letter the Banks final response.'
Does this mean he should accept the amount as he won't be offered another.
Help appreciated....

Help appreciated as I don't know whether to send off my 2nd letter or accept the offer0 -

It means this is the final offer they are prepared to make and you may either complain to the Financial Ombudsman or take it the court route. You can continue with the reclaiming process laid out on this site and send the letter before action (LBA) now. Good luck0 -

Thanks for replying, good to know someone is actually out there!
Just to confirm, I have sent the second letter saying I will take them to court if they don't pay, and it has been 14 days.
I am concerned about the legality of of stating 14 days. I telephoned HSBC today, and said that their 14 days were up and I would be proceeding to make a court claim, (hoping it would prompt them to offer me something). The answer I got was that they are still within their 8 week deadline set by the Financial [something] Scheme from the date of my first letter (22nd March). (Actually that is the letter asking for the money back, not the first letter in which I requested my statements). That means that it's only been 4 weeks since the "asking for my money" letter, so I'd have to wait a further 4 weeks from now.
In this situation, is it advisable to wait for their response (that they have to send within 8 weeks), then go to court if I have to, or just carry on regardless, and start the court claim now? I'm a bit reluctant to do it because the claim is going to cost £120, (Martin didn't mention that in the article! (...that I saw...)).
Any info from people ahead of me would be greatly appreciated.

I have just posted my 2nd letter to them and I wondered how anyone else got on but I looked on the success stories thread and there were practically none about Barclays. I don't have lots to claim back in comparison to a lot of people, but enough to make me really want it to go as quickly as possible. From 2 accounts (joint & sole) I'm claiming £720 + interest (£897.22 altogether).
I wrote polite letter to Barclays asking for return of unlawful charges over past six years. The wrote ignoring the text of my letter, but said they would look into my complaint .I immediately started the moneyclaim online through
the courts.I received two letters saying they have to collate information and
will reply to my complaint by 5th May. However they have not defended the
claim and I have judgment by default. I cannot check if they have paid the
£4000 due because they turned nasty after my request for return of charges
and took away my debit card. I am not sure how long i have to wait before
I can issue warrant of execution for payment, of the amount the Court
has awardeded me.0 -

my wife has had a letter from nationwide building society stating that they are not going to pay back the charges has it would be unfair on other members as they are in the same situation but she is still going to take them further0 -
Edinburghlass wrote: »You can put them all together but before you do, have a think about where you would want any monies reclaimed to go as they are likely to put it into the accounts claimed from so work out which account would be best to put as the "lead account".
edited to add, I should read more carefully, 2 are closed. If the 2 closed accounts still have "debt" on them for any reason they may well put the monies into those accounts.
Thanks very much for that Edinburghlass - the total amount that I will be claiming back is about £3,000 but only one of my credit cards has a balance which is about 1,000 so I would presume that they would send me a cheque for the rest - is that right?0 -

Hi,
My wife and I are trying to reclaim charges from a closed barclaycard account. We sent the initial letter asking for statements and received a prompt reply asking for more details as they could find no record of the account. Previous addressess etc were then sen,t but we have received a letter saying that our account details have been deleted from their main computer!! It goes on to say that if the reason for asking for the statements was to reclaim charges then to send a copy of the letter to their customer relations, which we will do.
What i want to know is, has this happened to anyone else, it just seems a bit strange to us?0
