Thanks so much for your super fast reply! I didn't know whether or not to add interest on. It works out at £1240 without and £1407.09 with interest. I suppose it's an extra £160 odd in my bank :T

Hello everyone! I have thoroughly browsed the messageboards for an answer to my question but I just can't seem to find one. I wonder if anyone can help.

I have set up a parachute bank account and I am now ready to attack HSBC with my bank charges letter. I have worked out how much they owe me but I just have one small query.

The intial letter to the bank asking for my money back should include details of all charges - how should I list these? Do I need to put them in a table or something with the amount, what I was charged for, etc.? I am just a bit confused as to how to give them this info.

I hope this makes sense and I would be very grateful for any guidance. Thanks - Emma.

I've just completed my first letter asking for charges back from one financial institution of 4 I am reclaiming from. I've advised that from their documentation the charges total £X amount and simply stated that in the letter. If they want fully documented evidence I will go to the bother of printing off the list I just did on Martins interest calculator but I'll save my ink and time until its necessary :)
  • Hi Emma,

I just did a list with the amount on the left hand side then the charge it related to, ie, unpaid direct debit and then the date the charge was applied/taken out of your account. I also sub totalled all of my amounts yearly at the bottom of the list and then added them up all together at the end. I hope this helps

You've all been so helpful - thank you. I just got notification of my new bank account, just in case of closure of my existing one, so it's full steam ahead. I will keep you updated with my progress. Finger's crossed :)

By the way - do you think it's worth pushing for interest on top? I know I'm not claiming an enormous amount, but I don't want to be greedy by adding the interest on top

My understanding is that if they have not entered a defence by the time the 28 days is up, then on the 29th day you can ask MCOL for judgement by default in your favour

Sorry to be a pain, but do you know if weekends/bank holidays are included in the 28 days or is it working days only?

    From the MCOL FAQ...

    Q. I am entering judgment by default but a message comes up stating you cannot enter judgment by default at this time, why does it say this?

    A. This is because the defendant's time for filing a response has not yet passed. If their deadline fell on a weekend or bank holiday they are given the next working day to respond. It may also be because the defendant has filed an acknowledgement of service, which gives them an extra 14 days to respond.

Is this ok to send to a catalogue

I am writing to request a fully comprehensive list of all the default charges for I have paid over the last six years. If you are unable to provide this data, I will accept a copy of my statements going back six years; I understand that statements on their own are not covered by the Data Protection Act 1998, yet I’m not requesting the statements per se, but the charges, which I’m entitled to by law.

If you store any of the older records on microfiche, please be aware that the Information Commissioner deems this to be a relevant filing system under the Act. As such, any microfiche data must be sent to me in fully legible and comprehensible form.

I look forward to your response within 40 days, as Littlewoods is obliged to reply under the Data Protection Act. If not I shall seek remedy from the Information Commissioner.

Im going to try to claim back from:
    Littlewoods
    Additions
    Great universal

by the way I wasnt going to send them a cheque for £10 unless they request it - Is this a good idea?

Does anyone have any success stories....

Also does anyone know if you can open bank accounts online? If so with whom???

    Thanks
