I am thinking of entering the charges and interest calcualtions into an Excel spreadsheet. Could anyone tell me what formula is used to calculate the interest. (Sorry, maths is not my strong point!)

Read Martin's article and the Reclaim Help Thread which is linked in my signature as you'll find all the information you need in there.

    Charges of a sort.

Good news yesterday with the FSA striking a deal with the trade associations that represent the majority of PPI providers. It means that Insurers will no longer apply nil-refund clauses to contracts. This has been described as a
major victory in the battle against rip-off loan insurance (credit cards as well)
has been won with insurers agreeing to offer 'fair' refunds when customers cancel policies. Interesting articles on thisismoney.co.uk campaign section.

    Sorry to be thick
Does this mean I can claim these charges back on credit card company
    Unfair Charges(allowed) £608
PPI (over same period) £552.14 of which £336 was paid after I had been made rudundent and later became self employed an I didn't make a claim on resulting in a default.
    Grateful for any suggestions/help:confused:

Hi. I have a couple of questions. After recieving the letter from Lloyds trying to fob me off: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=4796737&postcount=5039

I am going to write them the second letter (Which is Letter 5 I believe - I refer to default charges applied to my account amounting to of £
which I have requested you pay back.)
Is this the correct letter to write next? So I send this one, then if I don't get a satisfactory response I go to MCOL?
Which court would I use? (Norwich) http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/HMCSCourtFinder/
    Magistrates?

I'm a little aprehensive if it does go to court. I've never been to court before. Do I just go in there by myself. Do I need to prepare a list of questions to put to the Bank representative, to make my case? And sorry, if this seems like a daft question; what do I wear? shirt and tie OK?
(Sorry for all the questions, I know you all say one step at a time. I just want to be prepared, and have the knowledge - knowledge is power!)
Also one other thing; On the statements I printed from my online banking it says: "The personal data on this statement was correct at the time of printing. This statement is not an official Bank copy."
Does this mean anything in a court??

your right knowledge is power so ill share my knowledge of Lloyds TSB with you in my experiance Lloyds will dig there heals in hard at every stadge hopeing youll get scared off and drop it so be prepaird to fight but dont be afraid to fight and youll get there youll come accross obstical after obstical find a way around each one, one at a time
its been six months for me sofar but i will get there in the end

I've been wondering about PPI, as well as the rest of this reclaiming lark this is an issue I should address too. Not having done any research on it I wonder if anyone can advise me. I took out PPI when I took out my Capital One card to guard against unemployment. I technically did not become unemployed since I was 'retired' from my usual workplace on health grounds.

I dislocated my sacroiliac joint (where the hip/pelvis meets the back, not the leg) in a nasty fall straight after the birth of my first baby and nobody knew I'd done this so I was a bit of a mess and couldnt return to work after Maternity Leave. I claimed on the PPI and they advised me that since the claim was due to an injury sustained 'because of childbirth' they would not pay out.

It wasnt actually due to childbirth as I found out 2 years later in a visit to a chiropractor in desperation at the pain ! Do I have a valid case for misselling or at least misleading me to the reason for refusal ? I suppose technically they couldnt have known about the injury any more than I did at the time but would it be too late to do anything about getting the PPI back ? It was 9 years ago now.

    Any advice much appreciated :)

    Twinkly,

there is some good advice on thisismoney.co.uk/campaigns/loansins/article
    it's certainly worth a read.
I am self-employed and have broached this PPI mainly with credit cards, they
will try and bluff us by stating that self employed are covered. Rubbish !!

I have received exactly the same letter as you from Lloyds TSB and wish that someone could tell me 'What are default charges?' as they say that my charges are not 'default' - this must be a standard letter that they send out as mine is identical. Good luck with your next letter and I think I'll do the same now having seen that they must send the same thing to everyone!
  • Requested statements 27/02/07
    Recieved 05/03/07
I have sent my initial request for charges today 06/03/07
I know nationwide play hardball so we'll see how i get on.
I'm claiming £7043 for the past 5 years as i live in Scotland (no charges in the first year anyway)
Have just arranged an address in England to claim through MCOL
    Fingers crossed

I recently transferred a balance to my egg card and forgot to change the payment instruction from 'pay all' to 'pay minimum monthly' and so they applied to my account with Lloyds for over £5000. Obviously this was declined by Lloyds, Egg charged me £16 fee which I tried to argue against but they said that because I agreed to have my payments taken by DDebit they had special dispensation from the FSA to charge £16. I took this one on the chin but now Lloyds have charged me £35.
Are Egg right in what they say and as it was my mistake do I have any grounds to argue the case?

Also, if anyone can help me, does this reclaim charges thing apply to a business overdraft. Sadly I have gone bust and keep getting interest charges charged against me and direct debits knocked back and even more charges! Unfortunately I gave a personal guarantee so am now liable for a large debt. Yes, I am in fix and cant afford to pay the 2 charges above as it is!
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Hi

Fisrt of all i would like to thank Martin for this excellent website. I am spreding the word to as many people as i can.

Secondly pls can someone help me.

I sent a letter off to claim back my bank charges from HSBC. I sent the fist letter and they wrote back they are looking into the matter but would get back to me. Then i send the second letter without a reply. I then decided to go ahead and Proceed to MCOL. And this was submitted on the 4.4.07. I then realised that i had missed some charges for 2005. They amount to some £300 which is alot of money for me.

The questions is how do i go about reclaiming these charges as well. Do i send out another first letter highlighting the mistake i had made or what do i do???? How do i alter the MCOL:confused:

    PLS HELP
