My first claim was with HSBC, they settled with me very quick - on the LBA letter. However with my friend they made her go all the way to MCOL and paid up on the last day just to panic her!!
Neither of us have had our accounts closed, not many banks close your account, but best to have one set up in case.
Lots of banks give basic accounts for people with bad credit - Natwest offer one, as do CO-OP, Nationwide and a lot of them will give you a debit card.
Unfortunately I cant help with your business account but im sure someone will be along soon.Any spelling mistakes are entirely on purpose to check you're paying attention0 -
Hope this in the right place, my first post
My son is currently at college and receiving ema direct into his yorkshire bank account, the other day he put his maestro card in the machine at the hairdressers and it was declined, went to the yorkshire bank to get a mini statement and discovered there was a £25 charge on the statement, dragged him into the bank to question the staff about this and it baffled them until they trawled through all his previous spendings and decided he had overspent on a Friday by £4 even though that is the day his ema went into the bank but it was late that week for some unknown reason, anyway this was why he had been charged £25 which I argued this was rather unfair, anyway the lady talked to the manager and the manager said they where not allowed to let 16yrolds go overdrawn and as soon as it happened there should have been a limiter put on his account, anyway in the end they refunded him his £25, still confuses me though as I thought you could only spend money on the card if the money was in the bankto be updated:;)0 -

Many Thanks, that is really useful, when you say a basic account is it like a current account? If HSBC dont close the accounts down Im hoping that my Business one would not be affected as in effect it is owned by my Company not by my address. Also did you claim your charges back with lots of credit companies and banks at the same time, or did you stagger your claims? Thanks again0 -
I sent off the Prelim letter last week - day it was launched - together with a print off from the Charges Calculator. Had a very quick response back and sent off the Letter before action today (as per new template). However, i couldn't take a second print from the calculator, although I have it saved. Luckily I'd taken a copy last week so photocopied these and posted off.
Assuming it's not just me, it would be useful if multiple prints could be taken. (The CAG ones can be saved as they are just excel spreadsheets)
Recorded delivery, so they have 7 days to reply and then I'm moving to MCOL
Keep you informed - but this process does seem very straightforward and easy, and I find the letters are simpler than the CAG templates.
Keep you all informed how I get on - good luck everyone else who are following this path!

hi, i saw gmtv this morning, and frankly i cant believe it, but having read your sucess storys, i thought hey its worth a go, last month alone i was charged £252 by the alliance and leicester, i complained and they offered me £17.50 back, which would not even but me back into my agreed overdraft, i emailed again and they then agreed to refund £35, not very good. I have just sent off my £10, and asked them to send me all the charges over the last six years, goodness knows how much it will total too, I am then going onto Capital one. WIsh me luck, i will keep you all posted.
Has anyone had much sucess with A&L cant seem to find much info on the forums.

Yes they are current accounts, have all the direct debit/standing order facilities and majority with a debit card.
I have been staggering my claims (just so I dont get confused!!) am nearly finished with Nationwide for my partner so am starting on a very old mortgage, then will start on an old loan and so on till I run out. Just makes it easier for me to only have one/two at any time.Any spelling mistakes are entirely on purpose to check you're paying attention0 -

Hi
Yes you can, just follow the same process as you are doing for your bank.
Good luck!

Hi,
I have been paying a "Royalties Subscription" charge each month to The Royal Bank Of Scotland for my current account.
Can I claim this back,or is this for things like bank letters and overdraft charges..?
Thanks0
