I am just about to send a letter to HSBC to get my last 6 years bank charges, in the main article it metions going slightly over your overdraft, however a few years ago I was very irresponsible with my account and went approx £500 over my overdraft. Can I still claim my charges back or am i just waisting my time?
Thanks in advance.0 -
After reading this article I checked my online statements, ony go back 3 months online, to my horror the total for just 3 months in charges was £955.....
Boy did I read the rest of that article quickly and proceeded to address the NATWEST with the first letter straight away as I have 2 bank accounts with them, the 40 day deadline is 27/12/06 for a list of all charges.
How much it will be is scary, hopefully a lot, and I can get my own back - I have recently applied for a £2000 loan to pay off my overdraft and reduce to Nil to clear, and this was declined, wouldn't it be hilarious if they had to pay it me instead and if the 3 months is anything to go by it will be a lot more than £2000. Here's hoping.
I will keep you posted.Current Debt £16,364 about to settle following pension payout0 -
Well just sent 3 letters to 2 banks re my charges, hope it is as successful as the others i have read about.
Does this also apply to Credit Card companies ? or is it only for current acounts with banks ?01/05/10 - Secured load = £17000, unsecured debt = £27639 ... let the rollercoaster ride begin..0 -

I have just spoken to HFC Bank who are responsible for my Marbles MasterCard. I have asked them for the address to write to in order to obtain copies of my statements which they provided. I asked them if there was a charge and they informed me it was £5 per statement! From the information on the step-by-step guide I note it's supposed to be a maximum of £10 in total! Anyone know what the authority for this is so I can quote the maximum figure to them and where it is from? Is it the Data Protection Act?

Hi
I'm from N Ireland and struggling financially.
I've decided after reading these great articles to take Ulster Bank for unfair bank charges.
I am 300 in the red with the bank as they took my 100 pound over draft off me in September and have been happily charging me 30 each month for the pleasure. Which has now resulted in me being 300 pounds in debt to them. And they're asking for that back!
I've printed off the information on charges letter but I'm unsure should I try and contact them to come to some agreement? Should I pay this 300 pound for nothing? Or should I take them for charges?
I have been in the situation with them for some time where they take a 30 pound charge for a direct debit and take it straight from my account that then puts me over my overdraft and they charge me a further 30 for the pleasure. There's been months in the past I've payed 280+ pounds to the bank for them to bounce a direct debit. It's snowballed out of control and don't know what to do.
Thanks x0 -

Are these reclaimable or simply the charges over and above the limit of the overdraft?Any advice I give is based purely on personal experience. I have been charged a lot of maintenance fees and service charges with the royal bank of scotland. GOLD account Can someone please tell me what they are and if i can claim them back.
Maint - £27.50
Service fees - £10.00
If they are fees charged for a service they are not punitive and therefore not unlawful. If you no longer want the service (and the fees involved) I suggest you ask your Bank to stop providing them. ie. Change accounts or Bank. Many banks seem to provide these types of "GOLD" account with "added extras". I was offered one at Natwest. For £10 a month they offered a load of frills and discounts etc. but nothing really concrete. I was persuaded to sign up , but after considering it, asked them to revert me to a "basic" current account.Any advice I give is based purely on personal experience. i wrote to Barclays requesting from my statements and then a letter for my refund. firstly i have received the statement copies but from 2002 to 2006 only, secondly they informed me that it would take 4-8 weeks to find a solution. My question is what do i do now?? wait for them to respond in the timescale they have said??? help me
Follow the advice given on this site and send out the letters, STICK to your timetable. The banks rely on people believing they are somehow MORE than just another business and have your best interests at heart. If you are prepared to see your claim to its bitter end you need to give them reasonable amounts of time, in case you got to court (UNLIKELY), but the timescales in the template letters would be considered more than adequate. Once the time is up, based on your letter, go to the next stage.
Remember YOU call the shots!
