Has anyone else been wrongly charged for Tilda pure basmati rice boil in the bag 4 x 125g, at 2.99 when the blazing red sign in front of it proclaimed it to be now 1.00 ? :(

David : customer services, took 18 mins to check on his computer and then went down the aisle, he returned dogmatically adamant the sign was in front of a 250g box !!

Alex : supervisor, then took 13 mins+ to check and claimed the 250g box was alongside and inbetween two 500g boxes, and argued* the sign was not misleading. He understood I was frustrated but was not prepared to do anything on this occasion. I mentioned my 31.43 minute phone call and he replied "The length of phone call is upto you". At 7.48pm he repeatedly refused to see if David Thorington could spare me a minute or two. :( Charming !!!

With Sainsburys and other supermarkets, you need to check the SEL in front of the product as sometimes the product does not match the SEL.

If its more than 1 item, its some dozy student worker that cannot read.

If its just one or two items wrong, it must be a customer changing their mind and dumping where it suits them.

It does pay to spend a few seconds looking at the SELs (self edge labels)

I was in Tesco and saw some wine on offer for £4. Saw the SEL and it was a different wine - even from a different country!
  • Reading misleading enormous red signs correctly is not always easy when one is not carrying a magnifying glass to spy the tiny tiny tiny print.
When products have been reduced I have been charged the full price.
When products have been on offer I have been charged the full price.
When a stack of the same product has been behind a reduced or offer price, I have been charged a greater price.

One automatically assume's everything works out correctly at the till until you come to check your reciept, often when it's too late, after you've left the store, rushing to get on with a busy life. It's such an absolute money/ timewasting incovenience, especially when you live 15-20 miles away from the offending store.

I always check the SELs very carefully as I have been done this way many times before.

    That's where you're going wrong.
I do not leave any store until I've checked the receipt and made sure that I've not been overcharged for anything that was on offer and that I've got all the discounts for bogof etc.

Is time more important to you than money?
Unless you do a massive shop every time you go shopping, it shouldn't take that long to run down your receipt to check it's correct.

I always check the SELs very carefully as I have been done this way many times before.

If you've 'been done this way many times before', I would have thought that you would have realised that you need to check your receipt.

Did you really check the SEL very carefully?

    Sainsbury's website says:

Tilda Boil In The Bag Pure Basmati Rice 250g

    Save 79p was £1.79 now £1.00

I'm not excusing any supermarket for over-charging but mistakes do happen.
I'm on first name terms (:rotfl:) with the Customer Service section of my local Tesco as I tackle them about my incorrect receipts so often.

I always check the SEL very carefully, make sure I've picked up the right size etc and if I think I've been overcharged, I go back to the product and re-check. I also accompany the assistant when they go to check the price (just in case).

Sure, it might take time but at least I know that i'm not being overcharged and sometimes I make a few quid as I insist on 'double the difference'.

    You must be extremely unlucky.

I check my receipts and haven't had an error for years!

I think it is more that you are the lucky one!

    I am always being overcharged.

Last week I was charged for Pink Lady apples in Aldi instead of bananas (the SA put the code in the wrong way around). I had a result though because they refunded the whole amount.

And also in the Co-op I bought 2 quiches 2 for £3.50 and they charged me the full price for each.

Never had a problem that hasn't been sorted out in an amicable way whether in store or on the phone re grocery online delivery.

Just out of interest was it a 500g box you bought ? I presume it was as you mention 4 x 125g which is 500g, according to sainsburys website the 500g box is £2.99 whereas the 250g box/packet is priced at £1.00.

Reading misleading enormous red signs correctly is not always easy when one is not carrying a magnifying glass to spy the tiny tiny tiny print.
When products have been reduced I have been charged the full price.

When you say reduced do you mean yellow stickered eg due to the date ?

When products have been on offer I have been charged the full price.

You sure you pick up the correct item thats on offer ?
Things do end up in the wrong place, customers and staff are both at fault for this, some customers dump an item on the wrong shelf when they see item of same brand is cheaper and take the cheaper 1. Staff put stuff in the wrong place by accident as they dont check the sel.

When a stack of the same product has been behind a reduced or offer price, I have been charged a greater price.

As above do you pick up the correct item thats on offer or been reduced ?

One automatically assume's everything works out correctly at the till until you come to check your reciept, often when it's too late, after you've left the store, rushing to get on with a busy life. It's such an absolute money/ timewasting incovenience, especially when you live 15-20 miles away from the offending store.

The fact you have a busy life isnt the stores fault nor is the distance you live from said store. You have the oppurtunity to check your receipt whilst your in store.

I always check the SELs very carefully as I have been done this way many times before.

Have a nice hot drink and come back to this when your calm.
