Wrongly charged in Sainsburys Pontypridd!! Anyone else had the same trouble ?

As I said before, it's not the occasional mistake that could be considered fraud.
It's when an organisation persistently and systemically makes mistakes that are predominantly in its own favour that they are possibly committing a fraud.
Despite what certain amateur lawyers may proclaim on this forum it would actually be down to a court of law to decide if a company were committing a fraud.
So in the interest of settling this argument. I believe you should go back to a shop where there is a history of overcharging (obviously not the one in the other thread where you single handily fixed that issue).
Create a dossier of over charging (obviously a customer is only ever overcharged and not undercharged). Then try and get the company charged with fraud.

So when you made this statementIt should not be necessary for customers to have to spend their valuable time checking receipts to make sure they have not been defrauded by the places at which they choose to shop.

I am Mary , I am a nurse on the A&E at a well known hospital. I live in Pontypridd and shop at both Tesco and Sainsburys in Pontypridd.
I have had problems like the OP in both stores, but as I read that some posters were quiet clearly having a go, I thought I would put down my experience. Most of the people on this forum are right, it would help to check the recept in store, but honestly do we all do it everytime ?
I don't, I have a busy life and don't have time always.
Why is it some people seem to glorify the supermarkets when everyone else knows they are no where near perfect. As for internet shopping I think it is a good idea. Try it OP, it will save you time and money on fare.0 -
Apart from anything else, how, exactly, do you expect someone doing the weekly shop for a family with four children to remember the indicated price for every one of their purchases?
I've been caught by Sainsbury before, when the SEL has been ambiguous or out of date - and I've pointed it out to them a couple of times where I thought it was sharp practice to advertise a discount on a product that only applied to some flavours. I think you'd be hard pushed to say it was fraud; you'd have to prove an intent to deceive rather than just incompetence.
I did once pick them up for an out of date offer where the SEL hadn't been removed then went back the next day and bought it again because they hadn't changed the SEL.I need to think of something new here...0 -
Much as I regret rubbing salt in Sainsbury's wound ( because they have now resolved this issue), as the very kind nurse from Pontypridd stated in her post, she went in on wednesday and was caught out by the same offer, then she took it back and Sainsbury's apologetically claimed an assistant had put it in the wrong place.
I went in on Friday !!!!
The nurse also stated there was no gram weight on the the sale sign. Dave from customer services was adamant, and Alex the customer services supervisor persistantly claimed there was a gram weight on the sale sign. And told me several times I was wrong, they were both argumentative, accusatory, dismissive and offensive.
The manager apologised for their unpleasant behaviour. It's not what they or I expect from the usually charming/ helpful staff at Sainsbury's. I find all the lovely supporting comments heartwarming and encouraging, you know who you are, thankyou. As for polly cat/ rxpert/ mindless how do you explain Sainsbury's being aware of this problem and not rectifiying it immediately.
Who did you say was at fault ????
Sainsbury's do not deliver internet shopping to my area presently.0 -

Yes, I do check my receipt every time.
I said so in my first post on this thread:I do not leave any store until I've checked the receipt and made sure that I've not been overcharged for anything that was on offer and that I've got all the discounts for bogof etc.Chrissie1958 wrote: »

Certainly not me.
I've acknowledged numerous times on this thread that they do make mistakes.
I've not accepted that they defraud customers (waiting for the court case for that one) but that's a different discussion.
I do agree however that they aren't perfect.
I've asked Azari if he/she has any suggestions as to what I can personally do to stop this over-charging/mispricing but until I get a response I'll continue dealing with this in the best way I can - which is to check my receipt before I leave the store. Every time.
Anyone else can please themselves - check the receipt or not check it. It's no skin off my nose - or money out of my pocket.0 -

i find it strange how you constantly name drop all these colleagues including the manager. if you have had these problems before, so much so that you are on first name terms with the manager in particular why cant you shop somewhere else? theres nothing that says it more to a supermarket when you pick up and do your shopping elsewhere. if others feel the same they will do that too.
if receipts arent worth looking at then apart from proof of purchase what exactly are they for then? if they werent worth checking they would not list every item, offer and product code. not checking is just pure lazyness to be honest. it takes a minute to do. it puts your mind at ease as to what youve spent and makes sure youve been charged correctly.
im sorry but the excuse of 'im busy i have kids', 'i have to do a weekly shop' is no excuse. just make a running total in your head, it gives you an idea how to budget aswell. i have two kids myself and i still manage to do it on a big shop and i will sometimes walk around and use my phone to tot up the items as i go if i dont want to spend more than a certain amount.Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0 -

I don't have an explanation for it.
Maybe if I worked for Sainsbury's Pontypridd on Customer Services I might have an explanation - but I don't so I haven't.
I don't think there's an excuse for it either - that is being aware of a misleading/incorrect SEL and not doing anything about it.
But my point about checking your receipt before you leave the store (not whilst you're busy packing your bags if you can't manage to watch the price display as you pack) is still valid - especially as you've "been done this way many times before".
And if I were the manager of Sainsbury's at Pontypriddd, I'd be bloody furious with you for posting my name on a public forum - even it is was a compliment to him.
And if I were either of the 2 chaps on CS whom you've had a go at, I'd be even more angry with you.0 -

Well, yes dear, we shouldn't (and I've said that lots of times before too) have to do it.
Maybe you could suggest what I can personally do to stop this over-charging/mispricing throughout these supermarkets?
Until you can do that and we can all be 100% sure that there is no need to check receipts because supermarkets will never, ever make mistakes, I'll carry on checking my receipts.
Do you have any idea when supermarkets plan to staff their stores entirely by robots?
Because until they do, there will always be human error.
It might just be the one-off where the Mum is worried about her poorly baby that she's left at home when she's stacking shelves at 23:55 and she knows she's supposed to dismantle an offer that ends at midnight but she forgets.
I'll just carry on checking my receipts.0
