Ooh, synchronised posting!
I am pretty upbeat at the moment, you're right. You're also right about the cake unfortunately. I did palm most of it off on my colleagues though. I'm the new feeder.

Oh I know you weren't, didn't mean it to sound that way. I don't have the money either, as we all know!! But I decided the above post had to be warts and all so I could see where I'd been silly. xxBarclaycard [STRIKE] £2770 [/STRIKE] now £2690.

I actually completely agree on spending money in self maintenance. You're only 29 and are currently single and it doesn't sound as though you invest an awful lot in your appearance generally so if all you do spend on is a hair cut every couple of months then I say go for it! You've done so well on your credit card debt and you did buy clothes in the sale so as long as you're careful and maybe have one really strict month followed by a hair cut month followed by a strict one and so on the you should still meet your targets.
If the hair cut makes you feel better then its definitely a good thing as you need all the 'feel good' moments you can get at the moment. It's the spends that you keep quiet and pretend aren't happening that you need to be worrying about!
Like I said, you're only young and in general seem to be really sticking to this debt clearing thing! Wish I was more like you!0 -
Hi fudgie
Glad to hear you are well! I too have been feeling much better over the past couple of weeks. I think the exercise is brilliant for lifting mood and its always good to eat the right things and a treat now and again is fine - that's my excuse anyway!February 2021 GC £301.45 / £300.00

Hi BCB. My hair thanks you for your staunch defence of it's shiny existence.
I think you are right about appearance having a big effect on mental health, since sorting myself out a bit I've definitely been holding my head a little higher and having less worries about catching people's eye in the street! I think I'm going to budget £100 for hair and beauty (ha!) in the coming months and see if I can get my self confidence back up to a healthy level. You too can be more like me if you just set your mind to clearing a certain amount each month! I'm going for £650 next month, get strict on myself again.
As it is this month has not been good spending wise. I just seem to have gone a bit crazy because I was so strict in the lead up to Christmas. I haven't touched my credit card and I'm well on target to keep within my overdraft limit though so I'm concentrating on all of that. I managed to walk to work today which was good, and only spent £1 on 4 Crunchies.
It'll all pay off tomorrow when I get that Friday feeling. I've been bad on the eating front for the last week and it's left me a bit spotty chinned, definitely need to do something about this.
So, I have £30 in my purse and I want to stretch that out until the 1st. I have quite a bit of food in so it'll mainly be entertainment and travel for the next 7 days. I'm going out on Friday but I'm hoping to curb my spending by getting the train into town and not drinking. I'll be really pleased if i get away with only spending £10. I think £30 is totally doable and will set me up nicely for the remaining fortnight of my pay. That's the plan.
On an entirely unrelated note, I am again strongly considering taking voluntary redundancy from work. Things are very stressful in my office and I had an upset this week which was very reminiscent of the reasons I went on long term sick last summer. As a weak willed member of staff my manager picks on me quite a bit, and I'm just not willing to put up with any of it anymore. I'd walk away with £7000, an probably be paid up until March, so by that point would have debts of around £3000. This would leave me with £4000 to go to a new job or have a complete life change and move away. I'm sorely tempted, I'm one of the least tied down people I know! I've decided to look at this as a positive.Barclaycard [STRIKE] £2770 [/STRIKE] now £2690.

Forgot to say - thanks MM! I think diet and exercise (i include watching alcohol consumption in this) are really important for health and happiness. I love walking to work now, I find it really sets me up for the day. I also am very much in favour of a treat though, otherwise life would be very sad indeed.

Fudgie thank you so much for introducing a new form of exercise into my life - think you know exercising is problematic for ME people? - but Watching Alcohol Consumption is well within my capabilities!

Like you, I'd have succumbed to four crunchies for a quid.. would probably have bought a couple of packs with the honest intention of making 'em last..
Well done indeed on walking to work in this weather and generally living so frugally; have a round of applause - :T :T :T :T :T
How long have you got to think through the implications of the voluntary redundancy package?0
