Hey Fudge just doing mass catching up as I've been useless over Christmas - hope you feel better soon and glad you had a good festive period with the family, despite your initial thoughts! You're doing brilliantly!

Hi Fudgie sorry to hear you've been struck down by a lurgi.. but think staying with your family over NY will prove a solid silver lining; try and make the most of being looked after for a while. ;)

Aw, thanks everyone!! I am definitely on the mend now, just need to get rid of this blooming cough. Happy New Year to everyone on here, and thanks for all your kind words and encouragement last year. xx

You're right Robin, my extended stay was a solid silver lining, had a much better time down here than I would have sat in my damp room by myself. I've also been partaking in a challenge today to eat as much left over cheese as possible with my sister and her husband, so I've had all the calories I need for the week! So MSE. :)

I'll never understand why people buy so much cheese for Christmas, no one ever eats it and it's such a terrible waste. There were some truly horrible cheese options this year too. Wensleydale and Cranberry anyone??

But yeah...enough about cheese. :D I am here to post my ten New Years Resolutions, and I'm hoping to document these goals on my diary as well, so the thing can just meld into one glorious life makeover. That's the plan anyway. My mantra for the year is going to be 'this is what I want to achieve, and this is is how I'm going to achieve it'. I've always been the type of person who wants things but falls at the first hurdle of getting them, just no determination. But not this year. So without further ado:

    1) Pay off my debts! Yes, this is obvious, but it's an important one.
    2) Learn to drive. I have made it to 29 without ever having sat behind the wheel of a car, and whilst I don't need one, I want to have a licence. Hope to start lessons in July.
    3) Lose 2 stone. This actually is probably nearer to 2 and a half after the last fortnight, but I won't know until I get home and weigh myself. Terrifying. :(
    4) Get career focused. I have a reasonable job but I don't love it, and I'd like to go back to University to retrain in something I've always wanted to do (social work). To do this I need more experience of working with vulnerable people and I need to be financially secure.
    5) Sign up to the cycle to work scheme and actually do it. I used to cycle to work and loved it, but then I stopped. I want to get a bike tax-free, and it should cost the same as what I spend on the bus now.
    6) Volunteer. This is connected to number 4, but is also something I've always wanted to do but felt too shy to turn up by myself. I've found a charity in my area that works with homeless people, this is where I would like to start. Need to send them an email.
    7) Sort out my bedroom. As anyone who reads my diary knows, my bedroom is hardly a palace. But I haven't helped myself but living in a depressing mess with no cheerful items about the place. I need to have a big declutter and buy a shoe rack for a start.
    8) Start saving. Once I've paid off my debts I don't want to start wasting money again.
    9) No drinking. Although I've had a bit of alcohol this Christmas it hasn't been terrible levels. I want to go back to none at all now the festivities have passed.
    10) Work on my appearance. I'm sick of looking like something the cat dragged in and feeling embarrassed about it. I need to make sure I have done my hair/eyebrows etc before I go out. I try but I'm not good at being a girl. I missed the class where everyone was told what to do!

So that's the ten. It's a bit of a 5 year plan in all honesty, but the seeds will be sown this year. Obviously I would like a partner, a family, a home, but I don't think you can plan for these things. I want to get on with sorting myself out and hope that everything else falls into place. Oh, and I am going to try yoga. :D

This is a really long post, apologies to anyone who made it through.
    Barclaycard [STRIKE] £2770 [/STRIKE] now £2690.
    O/D £500. Weight loss: 12/28lbs :o Savings owed [STRIKE] £3000 [/STRIKE] now £2250 :( Total debt: [STRIKE] £6760 [/STRIKE] now £5440
  • Sounds like a fab plan! Good luck. Social work would be very rewarding.

I'm not great at the girlie stuff either. I get by but only just! Xx
