Does anyone know if you get a serview box and use it in the North can you get the southern channels. I used always get rte tv3 all the time and now they are gone. i get the freeview channels but they are all the uk channels. thanks0

waltsalt - you're getting the real Soarview - where (roughly) are you to help people out?
Golden Anemone - the freeview HD box will receive RTE1, 2 and TG4 from the NI transmitters. They are SD channels though. How you plug the FreeviewHD box into the TV will affect the quality of the picture, but not the channels you can view, whether the TV is HD Ready, Full HD ready, or neither. Short answer: The TV does NOT need to be HD Ready.0 -
It's not that confusing is it? OK, it is actually!
Tiny Dancer - it doesn't matter what box you buy. If you don't have a good signal from a transmitter IN THE SOUTH you won't be watching TV. Unless you're lucky, this will involve an aerial pointing at a northern transmitter, and one pointing at a southern transmitter. If you do that, you can use a Soarview box, OR a Freeview*HD* box to receive ALL the southern channels.
A Freeview*HD* box will get RTE1,2 and TG4 (NOT TV3) in SD from a northern transmitter as of a few days ago. A Freeview box will receive none of the above.
If you previously got TV3 crystal clear, you may be in luck.0 -
I'm from Tyrone (Strabane) as well, I got a Saorview box from Argos in Letterkenny, plugged it into my TV and it retuned it's self.
I am receiving RTE 1, RTE 2, TG4, TV3 and e3 as well as all the normal freeview channels
ie BBC1 & 2NI, UTV, UTV+1, C4, C5 etc....Mac0 -
My parents aren't able to receive RTE on their new Freeview HD box. Their signal is coming from Divis and all other channels are received with no problems.
I tried doing a manual tune on channel 39 (I read somewhere that is what RTE is transmitted on from Divis?) but still no joy.
I'm wondering if their aerial is of the wrong type to be able to pick up RTE on Freeview (something about Band K?)
EDIT: Black Mountain, not Divis.0 -
maccaz - that's to do with your location and aerial, not the box. A Freeview HD box will receive the same channels as a Saorview HD box, connected to the same aerial in the same place.
D.A. - ALL other channels? You sure? The channels are in groups, called multiplexes (muxes) and if you had a narrowband aerial you might miss out on a multiplex, but it would result in more than just 3 channels being missing.
Are you sure it's a FreeviewHD box - what's the make and model?
Try another FULL retune or whatever it's called on that box.0 -
My mother (who lives in Belfast) has a TVONICS HDZ-100 Freeview HD receiver; should she be receiving RTE?
Currently, she isn't.0 -

One of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/GBR2851T-Freeview-Digital-Receiver-iPlayer/dp/B00524YSYS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351704705&sr=8-1
And I tried a full retune a few times - no joy. It seems like it's just not picking up that whole mux that RTE etc is on (RTE radio is missing also), so I'm guessing it must be due to the aerial (as the digitaluk website says they should pick it up no problem at all).0 -

Does this box show signal levels for quality and strength? If so, can you try doing a manual tune on channel 39 and see what the levels are?
The signal levels I get on C39 are less than half the other channels ( 30% and 78% ). If I wasn't using a variable signal booster, I wouldn't get RTE from Black Mountain either.0 -

Did you read the first review on that link?
It would appear that the box has a few problems that might be solved with a firmware update.0
