Bloody Raging freeview light doesn't carry ITV4 :(

Looks like Londonderry/Derry UK city of culture transmitter is only a relay and will only relay 2 multiplexes :(

20% of NI population will only be able to receive a freeview light signal :(

Having retuned at lunchtime today I see I do get the '50 shades of Gay' channel thou :o well worth the license fee then :o I only want Thursday night football could I swap my bummming men channel for ITV 4 please :rotfl:
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:
  • Hmmmm will have to check what we've got when I get home.

Considering the bother we'd been having since the 10th, I'll be happy if the blasted thing works at all!!! :p

Yeah I know Spike, but thanks for that :T

I don't see why 20% of NI miss out on full Freeview and only get Light is my point really, I pay the full license fee and surely am entitled to get what the other 80% get :(

I know the fee only covers you for BBC channels which we get of course but can't help feeling short changed none the less :(

Is anyone picking up saorview in Belfast bt9 , bt10

Some people from South Belfast over on ukfree.tv report picking up RTE after DSO.
  • Auld fella has a HD tv in the living room and freeview tv in the kitchen.

TV in kitchen is linked to Sky TV from living room.

No problems retuning free view TV in kitchen except that the sky TV picture is now awful no matter how may times he's tried to retune it.

Is this something to do with the frequency even though the sky picture on main tv is OK and sky picture on both tv's was perfect before the switchover?

    Thanks for any advice
  • Hi all,

I know there is another thread on here regarding same but just to clarify my position as I'm sure others have the same question as myself!

I have a HD Samsung tv with built in freeview. I have just re-tuned my tv and am disappointed I haven't got RTE channels.

Will I get some RTE channels if I link my tv up to a 'hd freeview box - like a goodmans freeview hd set top box (in asda)?

Does the fact that I don't get RTE at the moment on my tv mean that I must not have hd freeview built into my tv (even though the screen is hd which is a separate thing)?

Sorry for questions but I am stupid at tv and aerial stuff!!!

    thanks,

I think you hit the nail on the head and have made an important distincton.

Your TV may well be capable of displaying an HD picture but you need to have a box or tv that supports MPEG4. This is the protocol being used for the NI RTE mux and the Freeview High Def channels.

However boxes listed as being Freeview HD are capable of playing content broadcast in either MPEG2 OR MPEG4.

Have a look at the table on the link below. Hopefully it will make sense.

I should ask where you get your signal from? I have assumed it to be Divis / Black Mountain.

Its a setting on the sky box. Unfortunately I haven't used one for years, so can't point you to the right menu, but if you have ever setup a video recorder, the principle is the same.

The second TV is fed via the RF2 output on the back of the sky box. This second output is associated with a channel number. Just did a quick search and came up with the link below. Hope that helps.

Use a channel number thats not being used now e..g. 42

PM me if you are stuck.
