Visiting one of my relations at the weekend, I got asked a lot of questions about the switch to Digital this month. I knew it was happening but not the specifics, so I went off to find out.
I have seen a few Freeview related threads here but they didn't answer the questions I was being asked.
The links below will hopefully provide some useful info and did provide answers to the questions I was asked ;
What happens on the 10th and what time of the day does it happen?
http://help.digitaluk.co.uk/display/4/kb/article.aspx?aid=8282
Switchover time differs depending on where you are, see this table for main and relay transmitters ;
http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/when_do_i_switch/northernireland/divis/divis_relaytimes
What happens on the 24th ?
http://help.digitaluk.co.uk/display/4/kb/article.aspx?aid=8283
See the earlier link for time of switch over.
Will I be able to get RTE ?
http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/when_do_i_switch/northernireland/northern_ireland_info
Typing my Postcode into the Postcode Checker ( on the right of their pages ) I get the following info for my Postcode ;
" You should also be able to receive TG4, RTÉ One and RTÉ Two services via your existing aerial from the Black Mountain transmitter after switchover. The channels will be broadcast in standard definition but Freeview HD equipment will be required."
Hopefully this info may be useful to someone else.

For a lot of people HD receiver wont be needed to just get RTE. MPEG4 in your TV will be ok to allow you to receive RTE.
Also if you do want to watch the HD channels, your TV saying HD ready on it doesnt mean you will get the HD channels, you need FreeviewHD or equivalent.0 -
Something else which just came to mind. I have a Humax Freeview box that schedules things I want to record. However, from memory, if I re-tune the box it loses everything in the recording schedule and therefore won't be able to record my favourite progs.
As a result, I would highly recommend taking a written note of anything in your recording schedule before you do a re-tune.0 -
Had to retune to get BBC 1 & 2 this morning BT23 area:T0

When does RTE come onto freeview.
I have rescanned on a HD box but its not there0 -
Had to retune everything this morning BT90

As far as I know, RTE (and the HD channels) come into Freeview on the 24th.0

no itv or channel 4 or 5 until 24/10/12:mad:0

rexel, what pills are you taking? Are you saying you've got no Ch4 or 5 on your Freeview box? There's something wrong at your end then, as the rest of us are still getting it. Have you done a retune?
Nothing extra as of today, the BBC2 analogue switch off allows a bit of a reshuffle and also serves as a good warning for anyone who was burying their head in the sand.0 -
I have bought a saorview box and use my aerials to get my digital>when i talked to the people in digital switchover they told me i would not pick up itv channel 4 or 5 until retune on 240
