  • Ok. So. Doesn't come up with any numbers when scanning. Just says how many channels it's found.

Got this email from DigitalUK yesterday...
    Dear Miss.,

Thank you for your email dated 16 October regarding TV reception.

At switchover the analogue signal is switched off, and the digital signal is boosted. This may mean that the digital TV signal you are receiving could be too strong and may cause picture and sound break up. If you have a signal booster this may need to be removed as it is no longer necessary and could be a possible cause of your picture break up and interference.

If you have any other equipment, like a DVD or VCR recorder/player, attached to this TV please disconnect it and ensure the aerial lead is placed directly in to the aerial socket on the TV. Then try the retune again.

If this also fails to improve the reception on the BBC channels you may need to contact Philips for advice. Alternatively you could provide us with the model number of this TV there are some TV's that may have difficulty with switchover.

Additional information can be found on our website at https://www.digitaluk.co.uk or if you would rather speak to one of our advisors please phone 08456 50 50 50.

    Kind Regards,

No booster. DVD etc disconnected. Aerial directly into tv (always is). Rescanned again and all channels including BBCs worked fine. Put the TV on standby, back on again, and they're still there. Turned the button on the TV to off, then on again... the following BBC channels lost: 1, 2, 3, cBBC, News and Parliament. And again for whatever reason, BBC4 is always ok!!

Have emailed DUK again, told them the above, and given them the model number (42PFP5532D)

    Keep you posted!!! :)

    Dear Miss.,

    Thank you for your reply.
We have no information of any problems with this Philips model. BBC4, until stage two of switchover broadcasts on two frequencies, the BBC channel group and multiplex B. This is the reason you are still able to view this channel. When switchover completes this channel will move to the BBC channel group only.

As you are missing just the BBC channels and these are the only ones that have changed to the new high powered frequencies, it suggests that when stage two takes place on 24 October you may lose the rest of the channels too.

You are able to retune the BBC channels and it is not until you switch off the power supply that you lose them again. This would suggest that your aerial and cabling as well as the aerial connection to the TV are fine. However it does mean that this issue could be a problem with the way the Philips TV is storing the tuning data. We would therefore recommend that you contact Philips for technical assistance.

Additional information can be found on our website at https://www.digitaluk.co.uk or if you would rather speak to one of our advisors please phone 08456 50 50 50.

    Kind Regards,

    *sigh* :(

    EDIT:
    Have now emailed Philips....!

HeadAboveWater, have you not got (or can you not borrow) another Freeview TV or Freeview box to do some tests?

This would let you know if the problem lies with the TV or your aerial/connections, etc.

Troubleshooting is all about the process of elimination.
  • We don't have another TV or box we can test. Will have to bed/steal/borrow if we can! ;)

Oh, I know all about troubleshooting so I know what you're saying :)

  • I'm in Fermanagh and hope to get ITV, Channels 4 and 5 (and all the other channels on those muxes) come the 24th.

Talked to the help scheme as other half is disabled and we got a Humax box, and their remit is that they only have to guarantee that you get channels 1 to 5 (anyone on the help scheme that is), if you don't get any of these channels after retuning on the 24th they will come out and sort it for you

Headabovewater - I know exactly what you are talking about!!

I to have a Phillips TV, which my parents give me, as they got a new one. I plugged it in and retuned and got all the digital channels - happy days I thought!

It was only when I switched it of and put it on again, that I to realised that all the BBC channels were missing. But the other channels where still there.

I tried searching for other channels, and when I did so it lost all the channels completely.

I then did a complete reinstall of all the channels, they all came back on again, only for the BBC ones to go again, when I switch the TV off or put it on standby. It was/is driving me nuts!!

I thought it was the TV but I wasnt sure.

I live in the Dungannon area, so I dont think now after having read yours posts that it is to do with the TV!!

My model of TV is slightly different to yours, mine being a 32PFL5522D

Hopefully next week, it will come back on properly without having to reinstall them everytime.

    I will let you know.

    Thanks

I'm hoping you meant "beg", as the other option is slightly too drastic. :p

Thanks for your post Josh2512. Good to know we're not complete idiots and doing something wrong! Or else you're as bad as us! ;) :rotfl:
But. Going by that last email from DUK though, it sounds as though nothing will work come the 24th :(

    Hi folks,

Got a little tv in bedroom so need a digital box for it, I understand that rte will be on freeview but will it only be rte1 I will get with the standard cheap digital box not a freeview HD box.

I only want to spend £10-£15 for a box in bedroom and not too worried about getting rte 2 but definietely want rte 1.

On a different note anyone know if there is any plans to make rte free to view in N ireland on sky?

    Thanks
