Thanks Ally, and thanks for the other part about posting x

Tenbob, Mr BR has already suggested in the past that I should leave him, but I love him and plan to stand with him in this. He cried with relief when I told him this.
I was talking with him again about the possibility of selling the house and today he said if he thought that selling the house would make enough to pay off the debts and the mortgage, then we'd have chatted about it, but he says that in today's market he doesn't think it'll be worth it.

Thank you, I shall give that some serious consideration x

I would. Especially if the criticism doesn't have a constructive element. It's just not worth the upset.

    Debt-free and Proud!
Hi BR sorry to hear that you are suffering with depression. Been there myself and know how hard it can be. I'm not surprised you are finding it difficult to remain positive with a time scale of 28 years. It is an awfully long time. As to Christmas I think everyone is feeling the pinch. I suggested to the family today that we should have a maximum amount to spend on each individual's present and they actually seemed quite relieved. It turns out that a lot of them are struggling as well.

It certainly makes coping more difficult as it's hard to see any positives.

Weirdly, I've always found the few months before Christmas really depressing, perhaps it's the weather, but this year everything just seems so bleak.

    Dear BR,
Just read your thread and wanted to add a little support.
Obviously you have taken responsibility for your part in the debt problem or you wouldn't be on here.
I think what may be needed though is a shift in outlook. 28 years is a very long time and I have no idea how old you are. If it was me it would see me well into retirement and I admit that would seem depressing.
However, the way we view our circumstances is the key to happiness and well being. Rather than worrying yourself sick about what you will have to go with out imagine yourself to be rich with what you do have.
Relative to the majority of the rest of the world we are most of us better off than the next man. We have a roof, food and safety.

I tell myself that I have no desire to line the pockets of global corporations and see creative present making, cooking, clothes buying as a way of cheating them out of their profits. It is both liberating and morally uplifting not to be sucked in by their greed.
Last year I picked sloe berries and dragged out an old bottle of gin. Two months later, bottled in small ketchup bottles I had smashing little gifts that believe you me went down a treat.

There is so much out there to enjoy, from watching the foxes in the garden to the sunset and the giggling kids.
Call me sentimental, but life still has plenty to offer even without the pennies chinking in your pocket.
I wish you the very best of everything on your journey.
    Kind regards
    Slowdown:)

Thanks hon, that means a lot x

I agree - somehow I've got to see the positives and not the negatives.
Speaking of foxes, we saw a beautiful one just standing in front of our front door the other day, and we're not in the country.
