I've never had a bad shopping experience in Waitrose or Lidl. ASDA customers are the pits, closely followed by Tesco.

    No generalisation here then!

What a ridiculous post - and some may suggest an element of snobbery.

    My experience....
I love sainsburys , buy alot of the basics really cheap, then only buy other stuff on offer, get money off coupons at every shop ...£5 off £50 spend. Helpful staff who run around looking for things I cant find and ask "anything else I can do for you madam".
At the till they smile and ask "how is your day" .

    Tesco.
Asked a member of staff where I could find something ....her eyes go up in the back of her head and points "down there".

Gangs of people walking around, guys with no tops on and holding a can of larger drinking it before they have paid (summer) and they are all loud shouting and swearing, and the girls have pj's on with young toddlers in pushchairs crying because its past bedtime.

I was at the clothing section and turn around and spot 2 women eyeing up my hand bag  One nodded to the other about it.

At the till I smile and say hello and the lady gives me a dirty look. As I leave I am approached from behind by a security guard after I paid at the till who shouts loudly making me jump - "do you have a receipt for that" (my george forman grill), he looks so serious , no smiling and I feel hes treating me as guilty.
So I show him my receipt , he opens up the box to look inside and then hands it back to me and walks off , leaving me to put the grill back inside the box and close it. So I complain to head office 3 times with no reply.

If tesco want to get customers back , they have alot of work to do in my opinion.
    Kindness costs nothing :)
  • That pretty much mirrors my experience of Tesco, mirry. The only difference is that I received a obsequious apology from them in response to my letter of complaint. I've been in once since then and nothing has changed. When I was looking at the discounted section, one of their shelf stackers literally pushed me out of the way. I asked her if she minded waiting and told her that I thought she was being very rude. Her response was to start throwing produce onto the shelf from a distance. I've not visited the store since.

That has shocked me out of my tea! That is an awful thing to say.. Maybe I'm far too much of a soft touch. I dislike stereotypes and people branding, so I apologise for coming across like that, I don't want to offend anyone. Wouldn't it be great if everyone was lovely? :A

Edwardia - I'm sorry to hear that about your poor little dog, hope it was okay, that is disgusting it happened.

As shocking as it is, unfortunately it is a fact where I live. Not politically correct, but nonetheless true.
  • I am agree with you guys Sainsburys is too expensive. And i never buy vegetables from any store. Because I have grow crops of vegetables, i always use fresh vegetables. Its healthy and cheap way for us. If you don't have much space for gardening then you can grow in boxes like trunk etc.

I think Sainsburys is a rip off. We tend to go to Lidl and what we dont like/cant get from there, we go to Sainsburys for. Its amazing that with their buying power how ridiculously expensive they are for some items.

The milk is cheaper in my high street than it is in Sainsburys. Lidl have a good range of cheeses and meats so I dont see the point of paying extra. The own brand offers best value at Sainsbury's and especially when compared the the brands.

I think both sainsbobs and Tescos are getting very expensive I went into my local Tescos today as I wanted to buy some stewing steak and they wanted £6.18 for around 500 gms which is just over a lb.I needless to say didn't buy it and went insstead to my local butcher who sells shin of beef and bought a lb for £2.90, at the end of the day its only going to make me a stew with veggies. My local sainsbobs no longer have a reduced counter at all and even the big Tescos at Gillingham hardly ever takes very much off at all.Strangely enough I have found that M&S often reduce quite a bit around 10.30 a.m. on a Monday morning quite a lot of veg.I have bought three leeks in there for 50p and a big box of mushrooms for the same amount. With M&S even though its reduced its still got quite a bit of life in it so veg is very good value when its been knocked down in pprice as its top of the range veg
Asda is over 6 miles from where I live so I cannot comment on their prices but my DD often goes there and says she has been saving quite a bit by comparison to tescos and she buys for her large family there. The nearest Morrisons isn't very big at all and also a good 3-4 miles away so hardly worth the effort.
PS by the way the Welsh cheese on offer at M&S is great value at £4.00 for a huge block I split my one into three and froze two of them Its the strong cheddar so you don't need as much when your cooking for flavour as well.

On Wednesday, I was putting some delivery out. Spotted that we have some balsamic vinegar for £11.99.

Who pays that amount for that? I get the small bottle for 99p and does the job.

I don't but I do appreciate the difference. Its a bit like wine, it ages and the taste becomes different. Balsamic vinegar is a natural product (they add a few preservatives but its essentially all natural), you cannot get the same taste in an aged Balsamic as you do in a fairly young version. Then there are differences in places of origin, different growers and again there is a taste. If you use enough of the stuff you do notice the difference and of course just like with wine, coffee beans, finest/taste-the-difference fruit/veg, you do notice the difference. Side by side its more obvious.
I don't, but if I did have the money, I'd opt for the aged version! (But then I do really really like Balsamic vinegar...)

    I do, quite often.

Its an amazing difference in taste and texture, I find the cheap ones watery in texture and wouldnt coat the back of a spoon which the aged ones do and also the taste is exceptional in aged balsamic and not all acidic and vinegary if that makes sense?
