Mumz, imo alan was out of order in his tone. But I do wonder if work is actually what you want to do? Or not? If you were well enough I mean? In an ideal world if this system were to work well, work advisers would help you access therapy and support to help tackle your anxiety and fears, generally and about employment rather than make someone feel pressured into something they feel unable to do. If it worked well and people were to be offered such therapy and support they would realise they were able to work and would willingly step into it. As it stands now, people don't have the support so are resistant often due to fear and lack of support.
I hope that CMHT help you access the support you need so you have the confidence to realise you are able to achieve far more than you hope or imagine."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0 -
If ATOS deliberately cancel another appointment, whom do I make a formal complaint to regarding this!!??
I am concerened that in deliberately cancelling my appointments, I will loose my benefit through no fault of my own ..
You won't lose benefit because they keep failing to attend their appointments. You would if you failed a couple of times however.
Complaint... to ATOS themselves.. refer the ATOS Healthcare website... to DWP perhaps.. to MP.
On the subject of complaint I've reported an above post.. totally inappropriate."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0 -

But that could be part of her MH condition, worrying over something that you and I may find trivial....
Agreed. Alot of people with mental health problems struggle to cope with change. I know I do. If an appointment is cancelled on me last minute then it really affects my mental health. I know that it is also the same for alot of other people with mental health issues.2019 Wins

Thanks Muttley your the best xx
Hopefully by the time ATOS send me a new appointment I would have heard from the adult mental health team.
I've been very ill with depression since 1997, and I have problems coping when appointments like this get cancelled beyond my control.
If I have another appointment cancelled by ATOS, I don't know what to do; I have so much stress going on at the moment, I dont know how I would cope again if another appointment was delayed.
My mental health is such that I cannot cope with a change in my routine, and I just get depressed in general very very quickly.
The sooner the mental health team contact me it would make me feel much more at ease with life in general!!0 -
No offense but why have you waited to be called for an medical to decide to request your GP to re-refer to the mental health team? Surely if you've suffered from severe depression for so long, you would have sought help sooner.0

Again, could be the ostrich effect with MH problems, shut yourself away, stick your head in the sand and hope all gets better. Not saying this is the case with the OP but it's very common in those suffering from MH problems.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
FBaby, it's hard to get a referal to the CMHT, GP's tend to look after MH patients themselves. I've been seriously ill for years but only got my referal following an overdose. I'd wanted/needed help before that."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0

OP has been severely depressed since 1997 according to her (although I am not sure she is clear on the clinical definition of 'severe' depression). Surely in all this time, even in the past 2 or 3 years, she could have been referred and seen someone by now. Why wait to have to go to a medical if you are really determined to get better, which I would think you would desperate to do if it meant being unable to function with every day tasks? Surely if her GP has agreed to refer her now, she would have agreed to refer her earlier?0

As above. What I've noticed is that my involvement with MH services and certainly one of the GPs who've been involved in my situation is that they seem to be looking for a way to get rid... get you off the books... I wouldn't have even seen a psychiatrist or gotten the diagnoses I have if I not been awkward and arrogant in response. Unfortunately for many MH patients they'll look for a situation of withdrawal... minimalism... which will give the impression of coping sufficient to enable the NHS to say goodbye. Took me 20 years to seek help at all... and only then because of the requirement to claim benefits. Within weeks of doing that I'd been repeatedly lied to by a GP saying he had made referral to a CPN... had he not tried to destroy my self assurance and integrity it is doubtful I'd have persisted to get MH services at all."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0
