Consumed by a huge loss is about right, no brave face and no willingness to talk to anyone outside. In fact nothing to say to anyone. Nothing can make it right and she doesn't want to feel better. Which makes me think that its turning to depression.

She is coming here in a couple of weeks time so we shall see how she is. House is going to be full at times so will be interesting whether she hides a way or interacts.

.....hard to know what to do isn't it? Would moving nearer to you be a possibility? Mind you, that's even more upheaval for her but could be worth asking just to see if that's something she would consider

When I got home tonight my husband told me that our lovely friend will not be with us for much longer. We will see her at the weekend and I hope we will have a few weeks.

She and her husband have been togethr almost 40 years - since they were 15. She has been our friend for 25 years since becoming our childminder.

    Feel so utterly useless .
    sad to read that too....

We have some MIL issues at the moment as her marriage is now beyond dire but she is too scared to exit it. The recent 2 mini strokes have left her feeling vulnerable though the drugs she is taking seem to have done the trick and she hasn't had anything else occur. So difficult for OH and his siblings but, fortunately, financially we can chip in together and find a solution for her...if she wants it.

Eight feet? We'd fit three quarters of the nice people in there!

I don't suppose we'd all sleep very well though....
    I think....

Please omit me from any invites... I don't do the whole group hug thing :)

We have 4' beds in the UK.... and the name completely escapes me at the moment..... must be my age.

Edit: I was thinking of "three quarter". Wiki tells me it's got three names: Queen or small double or three-quarter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_size#UK_and_Ireland_sizes

I have a 4ft bed, I bought it as a small double. It is great as an emergency stay over bed, when you need really to sleep two but don't have the room. My spare bedroom is 5'7" wide so not big enough for a double and this fits a treat. It's lovely as a big single and just big enough at a push when it does need to sleep two (well more comfy than sofa anyway).

ETA: the thought of Gen rolling around in something twice this wide makes me giggle. I'd want to do that thing little kids do where they paddle with their feet until they go all round the bed in a circle. I can't do that in any of my beds without falling out.

    .

    I would.

For some one who needed to break a brain to beat insomnia I have to admit falling asleep at several parties, in a few nightclubs and underneath a piano (being played) on more than one occasion.

Sleeping in a huge bed, regardless of what the rest were doing, would be great.

Alone I like to sleep to radio four or the Bbc parliament thing. I like the sound of not terribly sexy men to sleep to.

A four foot double...I never knew that existed. We were thinking of having two four foot six beds in one of the spare rooms, but I thought it would look a squeeze. Two four feet beds might do though.

Woot, big surprise....the boiler has decided to have a go at working again. Overnight it can have ago at heating up that huge cylinder of hot water and see if it can warm the house a bit. How exciting!

How many would you want to sleep in your spare room? 2 four foot beds would be 2 guest doubles = 4 people. What sort of entertaining do you do?

We have a 4'6" standard double, with a king size (or is it queen) 6' duvet.

We have discussed that. But not near me, nearer to sibling where she has a strong relationship with the little grandchildren. I suggested she rent somewhere near there first as a 6 month trial and keep her current home, to keep options open. She used to live in that direction until a few years ago, so has friends there. She is undecided and is in a tizz because she can't make a decision.

We will have more than one spare room. But they will have to be flexible.

E.g. This summer other in law, the partner and the baby might be coming, Because of the current bed /house situation I think we will have to give them our room and we sleep on a sofa bed down stairs (the pets will all love this).

Being able to put one nuclear family in a room would be useful (if not ideal for them, but at bigger gatherings of friends and family even today people have to be flexible......but we are all getting too old for sleeping beds on the floor!
