My view is that it's too much house on too little a plot. Four storeys aren't really practical for a family, there isn't enough outdoor space or enough parking for the number of rooms. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? You been there Gen? I went there once, about 15 years ago, and found it pretty soulless. Only memorable thing was walking up the grass roof of the new Parliament.
I've been a few times and at one stage had a plan to move there.
I love Canberra and despite the fact that almost all Aussies love to bag the place, I think it's pretty good.
The food there is great as it's slap bang in the middle of a farming district. Also, ironically as the Federal Government sets so many dumb rules for the rest of the nation, the ACT Government tends towards the libertarian.
Finally, the ACT contains Canberra and also Jervis Bay, It was decided that a Capital City needs a port/harbour so Jervis Bay was set aside. Then it was realised that this was an idiotic idea as Sydney is so close. As a result we have this which is a part of the ACT yet miles away from Canberra:mystic_trev wrote: »Although I say that, there was one other memorable occasion. The Hotel I stayed in also had a wing which was a Hostel, and that's where the Laundry facilities were. One afternoon I went to do my washing, nobody there, so went off to come back an hour later to tumble dry. To my amazement it was full of long legged, blue eyes, blonde Scandinavian girls wearing only knickers and bras doing their ironing  They had also removed my washing and I couldn't find it ;)Luckily one kind girl pointed out where they'd put them and helped me load the dryer:D I felt like a bit part actor in a porno movie :rotfl:
That sounds to me like a very good reason to like/love/adore Canberra!0 -
Have made a bit of a breakthrough in my quest to help my friend trace his family tree. Have got to 1400 down one line. No great noble lines found, just good country folk. Managed to get a hit on the book of visitations and work back. I had a hunch that a name was spelt wrong and there in the visitations was the name spelt correctly and outlining the marriage to who I suspected. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Four storeys could be a struggle. Our rented house ws three storeys and we found it laborious using the bedrooms at the top while living at the bottom. feels like you're living in a lighthouse! Actually it was pretty remote too - sort of a town house at the very edge of town where everything was a twenty minuite walk away. Never again! :cool:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
A couple of family members have four storey town houses. It's really not that bad. (So long as your only loo is not top floor and lower ground!. In cousins the basement is a kitchen family room (with loo) and dining room, the ground is reception space (couple of sitting rooms) and the top floors are bedrooms). The other one that worked brilliantly was the one where bedrooms were top floor and basement. There was a kitchenette in the basement and when the kids were very young and now they have left the basement was locked off and rented out, but when they were secondary aged, they playeds loud music without annoying parents (and vice versa) and felt 'independent' but were in the bosom of their family.
The ones that are pokey and necessitate walking up and down stairs for everything don't work we'll, but the 'traditional' ones can. (Unless you really, really like a cup of tea in bed every day)0 -
I have been on a course this week during which the assessment includes role plays...and have had a filthy cold all week. A lot of sneezing and watery eyes. My bag has been full of packs of tissues and I have been trying to tend to my nose and eyes in as discreet and non disruptive way as possible.
Yesterday I was not entirely sucessful as at one point I slipped my hand into my bag, retrieved a wadge of tises and dabbed my eyes with...a handful of mint teabags. Made my eyes sting and run more and had been observed by the assessor. I did explain it was a mistake...he had thought 'teabag eye wiping' was an alternative remedy I was trying.
Role plays make me . I always feel they're so false.um...it's due to snow tomorrow but i was going to plant out broad beans and peas....do i chance it?
I've done absolutely zero this year. Last year was dire, & so much I planted didn't work out. Got hardly anything.
I've only just started wondering what to plant this year, & the garden is a mess, & I CBA to go out there & tidy it yet. Meant to the last 3 weekends & procrastinated. Not going to bother this weekend, as there is allegedly a risk the snow will make it here? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
This morning we had a visit from SB with a lovely bunch of flowers for Mothers Day and a beautiful card to accompany them. So we all went out for a lovely lunch to a Restaurant with a beautiful views of the Isle of Wight, afterwards a lovely stroll along the cliff tops to work off the food.
Just before SB arrived home by train we received a call from the EA saying that he had a couple interested in a viewing within the hour but that the staff were all out on viewings and would we do the viewing ourselves, my OH loves showing people around the property when given the chance so we ok'd it.
To cut a long story short I excused myself saying that I was going out to meet our daughter off the train and left my OH showing them around. When SB and I got home the couple were just leaving in their car and about thirty minutes later the EA rang to say that the couple were so delighted with the Bungalow that they have made an offer which we are delighted with, so over lunch we discussed it together and decided to accept, it was so nice the SB was included in our days enjoyment so now we are quite excited at the following weeks ahead but fully aware that we will not be counting our chickens before they are hatched.:)
PS The Bungalow has been on the market three weeks today.0 -
Can I ask the help of the NP's please?
A friend has a child who has now been advised to not be fed wheat and eggs. It has been suggested there are allergies there, so they have to feed their child all sorts of stuff without having either product in it.
Child is aged 3.
The child also quite possibly has a learning difficulty, that is still being investigated. Communication skills are low.
Parents are worried about what food he can have. We had a long discussion about fresh fruit & veg becoming the mainstay of the diet for the little un. I think they are concerned at not being able to give him "treats" (biscuits, chocolate or such like) or snacks. They're also concerned about him feeling isolated amongst other kids having such stuff.
Can people suggest a source where you can buy egg & wheat free products please? And/or suggestions of stuff that is wheat & egg free?
Online ordering can & will be done if required.
Thanks in advance folks! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Tesco do a whole range of "free from....." stuff from biscuits, bread and cake to yoghurts and milk.
Health food shops are also a good source.
I would make sure that the advice is from a reliable source. There are many dodgy allergy "experts" out there, happily taking your money and providing dubious analysis. To restrict your diet without solid scientific fact would be harmful IMO.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
