Yes, on so many levels.
Also very money saving as you can eat and drink for free in the lounges, and enjoy free wifi.
Their are rankings of lounges. To put that thread in context, in certain first class lounges, the "therapists" stroll around offering (free) head, neck or arm massages. You can also book certain spa treatments.0 -

I am so glad things are looking positive.
And FC......so good to see you here!
It was nice to read back through the thread but I know I missed whole chunks of stuff, then tried to go back to find a clue. I know about Gens wifes job and the nanny sacking but unsure if PN is on annual leave or left? I know you haven't been on top form but are as stoic as ever..lost of stuff went in so I don't feel left out.:)
Feel bad as don't know Micheals's concern....vivatifosi wrote: »Hi fc (waves)....
As you are around at the moment, I think you have mentioned the book 'The Long Tail' by Chris Anderson. I saw his new book 'Makers, the New Industrial Revolution' and thought of you and wondered whether you had seen it.
Now I trade as a niche brand inside the long tail and it's ace
(;))
I keep meaning to buy 'Makers' as it's soooo PLU (people like us haha) but I am trying to be MSE and stop buying books and then stacking them up for another day.
Currently reading 'Poer of Habit' by Charles Duhigg.
I will save Makers for a special reading moment as I know I will start and not be able to stop.......My p and m are sharp as tacks and I got them computers and sorted out with internet. I trust them to buy things online but I'm always worried that one of these scams will suck them in. How come there isn't some kind of scambuster site where you can check the details of ads and reead reviews about how reliable /legit/dogy these companies are?
Like Margate btw. I mentioned it in an earlier post but not by name.
I have been a it fixated with the place for a few years. I think I chatted on a thread about it with Dopestar once (3 or 4 years ago!)
I have a nice long chewy post in my head on why Margate and the main reason is we love the place despite all the social issues that make the headlines. Granted I wouldn't move there to live F/T if I had kids (sorry, sounds wrong but YKWIM) but our kids are grown up now so we can hang out where we want to now (!)
Actually, I don't think either child will like it (even though we went there all the time @ W/E when they were kids). In fact DD doesn't like anything less sterile than a shopping centre or eat out ' O2, she won't got to any of the local high st's or even the west end......it's dead wierd as we dragged her to all sorts of off beat places as a child .......ah....so that could be why
Margate reminds me (in essence) of all the places we parked ourselves before which then went mega chi chi and then priced us out. Got it now with our riverside studio....the clock is ticking until cross rail and the pension fund (a real golden one) get permission to knock everything down and turn it into riverfront'appartments'.
Shame but at least we got that view for a while dead cheap. I mean 2900 sq ft @ £1000 pcm is pretty good. It's like a giant penthouse with windows all around.
It has a sea view.....I gasped when I saw it the 1st time....that we could ever afford a sea view. It has 5 beds (which we will turn into 2), 4 floors and a diverse set of neighbours (some of wholm I know now).0 -

...and sorry for mentioning House prices on the NP thread!
I know the entire area street by street now as I have been down there the odd Saturday through the winter driving around, checking up on my research and really getting a feel for the HMO zone ((where all this big cheap stuff is).
I would read articles on Margate re-generation but the best info would be in the comments section under. Trip advisor has also been invaluable as you get a good overview of outsiders experiences of the place.
Things is the HB rules are changing, LL in the area owning more than 1 (I think) BTL or HMO have to have a license (it's a pilot scheme) and definately 'values' have dropped since the peak by around 30%....so you have quite few mortgaged up with 20 bedsits carved into a worn out huge victorian pile that needs work to bring it up to scratch.
It's a dead strange place once you get inside of it, there are almost invisible divides from one street to another, neither 'type' spill over into the next street.
One street was so Hyacinth bouquet (so smart, huge 1930's imaculate places) and the parallel st was the direct opposite. 2 traveller families were fighting when we walked up it, one house was a brothel, others were falling down, the council had compulsoraily purchased 3 hotels (that were also brothels) and boarded them up. It was bizarre.0 -

I didn't think I was.
Occasionally we get to do "posh" things, but we are not posh people. Really very down to earth.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. FC - I think PN is 'free to pursue other activities' - I missed the original post too (PN - will delete if you like - just say the word), and Michaels didn't specify what he wanted good wishes for.
So you sound like you're pretty well caught up
Lovely to see you around here again!
Don't worry about the 2nd home thingy
I'm looking to buy and offered on somewhere that I think would have ended up as a btl... but was outbid0 -

I've done some fairly posh things, but am far from it... and I definitely have only done them because they were free!
Just to back up my 'poshness', am going to see a friend I have recently re-connected with (can't take credit, she was the one to get in touch) in Manchester over Easter weekend. Train looks cheapest option, and probably first class... because it is cheapest!0 -

Oh wow - I bet it will be AMAZING! Votes for a NP weekend away by the seaside?0 -

That is a whole lotta house for £250000! Are there 2 kitchens? Pics 3 and 11.0 -

Good luck with the looking......it could take a year so don't be forlorn if if you don't get an offer accepted straight away.
I will put a link up over the W/E when more people are on, then remove it.
Ours is a 5 (small) bed, 4 story with sea view on the very edge of the HMO zone @ 125k (though he did want 160k a year ago) and it is in a very sad state. He had dropped to 140, had an offer of 135 who pulled out and then we made a cheeky one and he said yes as no chain.
It is currently an HMO full of not sober and very stoned not very pleasant men.
I went to view it 3 times before we could get inside....agent and I stood outside, knocked on the door, the tenants had had written notice but they don't want to move it would seem.
It's already getting tricky as one semi-attacked the surveyor who had to flee (he said) so he'll go back next week with the agent as security.
When we chatted to them during the viewing they were OK but, OMG the smell...and I am quite good with pongs but one of the rooms made you gag.
It's not going to be the easiest of sales but the owner is keen to get shot of it and it's usual that tenants like these get a wad of cash on moving out day if they behave (and don't destroy the place). Obviously we will only exchange when vacant and change locks same day.
I did view tons of stuff and a lot of repos too.....but this one kept drawing me back.0
