BUT... it is suprising what you can manage to achieve with 'willpower' and positive thinking.;)
Or a butter knife  Oh and not forgetting a steak knife....
*The one who never has the right tools and uses other handily available implements! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

My car is dying....after nearly 6 years and almost 40k miles for the initial £461 purchase price, it looks like she is on her last weeks with us. So, it is try to find another car cheap, unfortunately, the blasted scrappage scheme has pretty much decimated the cheap second hand market!

You have now given yourself some sound good advice, during my lifetime I have attempted most trades that are always required in the home to keep up to date with general maintenence, and there are not many jobs that, with time and general commonsence cannot be achieved. We all have our limitations and should always know when we have reached the impossible and call in the professionals BUT... it is suprising what you can manage to achieve with 'willpower' and positive thinking.;)
I have tried my hand at lots of DIY tasks. I like electrical and plumbing work. My tiling is okay, but I seem to take ages over it. I can plaster tiny areas that need repair, but I would definitely get a plasterer in for any larger areas. That's one particular job that seems to be incredibly skilled.
On the whole, builders are vastly under-rated in this country. It's a far more difficult job than most people give it credit for, and most of the builders I have met have been very impressive and capable. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Dh did some beautiful tiling in London. But I think I would choose which tiles he were to do him self carefully. It's like carpets......poorly fitted expensive carpets look grim, where as well fitted cheap ones look pretty good. Only with tiles, I think it might be better to look at the cheaper ones being better for the layperson?0

I agree, the cheaper tiles come with angled sides, so you don't need to use spacers or other fiddly things like match sticks to place correctly.
I once thought I could tile and tiled around a bathroom sink. Started on one side and went up, around the sink and down the other side. Goodness knows why. Anyway the tiles were 2" out by the time they met behind the pedestal.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Plastering is a definate art and with it there is no substitute for experience, I have tried it and eventually admitted that I am fine with small areas...BUT...when i see the Plasterers on DIY SOS and similar programmes I just gaze in wonder especially when they attempt and succeed with plastering 'ceilings' with me gravity takes over every time.:(
I find that on the variety of web sites there are numerous clips of most of the trades that we have touched upon showing how many of the DIY jobs are tackled. They wave their float around like a musical directors baton.
I will agree that builders are grossly under-rated.0 -

Having said that, with the exception of those of you that I've met, I have no idea whether you are male or female unless you actually say it. Except Gen, who I've seen pics of, and chewy... Well, nobody could be that Alpha a female...
Just to confirm, I am male'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
