PN - you can relax, you'll have to wait a little longer to see me on DIY SOS/ Help! My House is Falling Down :)

Apparently there were 2 offers over asking price  I'm sure there was shock in the estate agent's voice when I spoke to him. I really can't see how they can do all that is needed within a sensible budget - unless they are tradespeople and have a lot of friends in other trades.

I have a horrible feeling that the market around here is considerably hotter than I was hoping for at the moment!

Just as I had reported my bank card lost (depressingly common occurrence for me...it's the broken brain thing) I found it, but it was too late to reverse. Very frustrating.

I did learn from the bank that the last time I used my card was two weeks ago. I was quite pleasantly surprised by that, but dh used his for me to buy some fresh fruit at the weekend, so it hasn't been two personal spend free weeks.

I think its a blessing which doesn't even need to much disguising! Whilst I had a pretty good idea of what I would do, I have no experience in project managing anything like that - and I'm not sure now is the best time for me to learn.

It also was less what I think I want than house no. 1 - it just seemed like a great opportunity.

I'm sure I'll find the right place too, will be keeping an eye out

I've always been annoyed that it's not possible to "put your card on hold while you continue searching", say, for 48 hours. And if they don't hear from you they re-issue.

Many are. Indeed, until the recent mad market that's pretty much how it used to happen entirely. Trades like to have a background project to do when they are between jobs, especially small firms with staff.

There are other reasons people will buy a house though. Knock it down, build 3 on the plot, split it into flats.... buying one to live in is increasingly rare :)

    Next one will be better.

Sounds like I need to make friends with some tradespeople ;)

DS1 perpetually loses his cards. Which has resulted in (a) me having 3rd party access to his account so I can at least report it missing (b) I now always ask for a temporary restriction being put on it rather than it be stopped as chances are it will re-appear within 48 hours (c) him believing that I have extra sensory powers, as I can usually guide him to where it has been left.

It is, or at least it is definitely possible to put a temporary hold on its use until you contact again to report that either it has been found or a new one needs ordering. It does delay the re-ordering, as they won't re-order until the current one is stopped completely.

That is what I am worried about :)
