Nice people thread part 7 - a thread in its prime

I was sure on another thread Stevie had outed herself as female but I guess it must just be my imagination. No offence mate and call me narrow minded but it would take more than 150 quid for me to kiss a guy.
On the other hand if Nikki learns to plaster and skim and she'll have me I'd drop the DW and DKs like a shot...I think....0 -
They might well, but they would hopefully realise that I'm good at researching on the internet and would be quite prepared to 'camp' rather than live in a house for a while (as opposed to paying top whack to get things done as quickly as possible). I'm also pretty good at working out when someone is bs-ing (that includes my ex btw - I just didn't get out as quickly as I should have for a number of reasons which I completely regret with hindsight).
Assuming that I don't find anywhere too quickly/ anywhere that I found was habitable, I am seriously considering trying learn a bit of plastering/ tiling etc.
I inherited (half) a house in 2003 which was structurally sound and had e.g. Brand new windows and doors, but which needed to be given a complete facelift, new central heating, new kitchen and bathroom.
A friend of my mum's who worked as a sort of general handyman helped me out and he knew a gas fitter. My dad helped quite a lot especially with planning the kitchen and bathroom as well but ultimately I did most of the gutting, painting and tiling myself. The gas fitter did the plumbing which was handy.
I would never do it again - it was ruddy hard work and took about a million times longer than I expected! Whilst I could do most stuff I wouldn't have had a clue where to start without someone to help with the planning of everything, would have been a disaster if I had tried to do it myself. I prefer sitting at a computer and tapping at a keyboard for a living.0 -

I think you get paid quite a lot more for tapping at your keyboard than I do for tapping at mineAnd I don't have anyone to pitch more into my deposit/ count towards the salary multiple/ pay the mortgage with me.
The aim wasn't really to go into massive renovations, I just really liked the house I offered on (and the mortgage would have been pretty small). Ideally I'm looking for something which needs cosmetic work only, in which case I'd be able to do it up as slowly as I like. And seeing as it would be only me it doesn't matter if I can only live in a room at a time. As I've said, I'd prefer not to get something which has already been completely 'done' - I've spent long enough living with other people's choices of kitchen, bathroom etc.0 -

You have now given yourself some sound good advice, during my lifetime I have attempted most trades that are always required in the home to keep up to date with general maintenence, and there are not many jobs that, with time and general commonsence cannot be achieved. We all have our limitations and should always know when we have reached the impossible and call in the professionals BUT... it is suprising what you can manage to achieve with 'willpower' and positive thinking.;)0 -

I really need to know the answer to this now! I've always thought of Stevie as male. It's like Jelly all over again.
Having said that, with the exception of those of you that I've met, I have no idea whether you are male or female unless you actually say it. Except Gen, who I've seen pics of, and chewy... Well, nobody could be that Alpha a female...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? My brother's a builder Nikkster, he says that this book is the best in terms of explaining to competent DIYers (or those capable of becoming competent DIYers) how to do stuff, he's even used it himself to learn some things that he was never taught:

I've been mistaken for female on this and other threads but I worked out who was male and female (I thought). I've met michaels and seen him on tv. Theres been the odd picture of NPs here there and elsewhere. Maybe I'm not as good at this as I thought.:(There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

DS1 perpetually loses his cards. Which has resulted in (a) me having 3rd party access to his account so I can at least report it missing (b) I now always ask for a temporary restriction being put on it rather than it be stopped as chances are it will re-appear within 48 hours (c) him believing that I have extra sensory powers, as I can usually guide him to where it has been left.
I looked after James' one for a depressingly long time as he kept losing his but he is now able to keep hold of it. I also did the same with the other two but gave middle one his one about a year ago...luckily and despite his horrendous memory, he has managed to not lose it (yet!)
I still have youngest's card though, the child who loves technology and can build computers etc hates mobile phones and cashpoints and hasn't a clue how to use them...go figure! So, he sees no reason for him to carry it on him and just thinks it is easier just staying in my purse. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
