Last week was The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, since yesterday it's Youth and Young Manhood by Kings of Leon :)

Edit: I was very much enjoying Lauryn Hill so she got a bonus day (lucky her!)

Thank goodness another NP with some taste in music..they might win some but they just lost one...but what is 'dat ting'?

I always seem to want chillout on my commute, J-i-l-l S-c-o-t-t has been played a lot over the last few days but India Irie, JazzyFatNastees, Jaheim and even Enya often get a look in. I also have lots of stuff i used to like listening too when I was (much) younger, Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen etc - it's all right but I don't really get it any more, weird how taste in music can change I always think.

Anyone else have any such driving foibles?
Apart from wearing a blindfold and just using the Force, no! :D

I'm another whole album not individual tracks person but haven't bought anything recently as the kids seem to like a track at a time on youtube.
I like compilations more than whole albums. The Trip by Snow Patrol and Late Night Tales by lots and lots of musicans are really fine.

if I had money I'd pay for spotify and play compilations like Danger Mouses's Endless Summer Playlist. It's 170 songs long.

As we discussed earlier on the thread I like to hear music other people have recommended to me. Which is why I like the music thread here as well.

I don't think you should feel obliged to go out just to create the impression to an absent landlord that you are working. Plenty of people work from home these days.

Including PN, who is actually working from home now, on rebuilding her empire.
    Grrrr,

I think I might have developed an egg intolerance/allergy. :(. It would explain why every time I start to feel well and have something to eat I set off again. I eat so many eggs as eggs, it will be a real pain, let alone eggs in stuff. Anyway, now I think i have narrowed it down to that I can try an exclusion diet.

What a nuisance. Hope it turns out to be something else that's much easier to deal with.

My pet hate is sat nav, I'm convinced it rots the brain. Then again I learnt to read via maps, so I'm partial to an A to Z and getting out of the car/van to ask people for directions.

I used to think that when I was part of a couple, but I have changed my mind since I have been single. I can read a map so that I get to where I want to go. I can drive a car safely. But I can't actually do both simultaneously. The sat nav allows me to concentrate properly on the driving. It also gives me surprisingly accurate estimates of how long I am going to take to get there, and reroutes me to avoid bad traffic.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I don't know why but I am surprised that you used to like Dire Straits and Springsteen, they just seem so different to what you listen to now.

Think I've mentioned in the past, but like I Jill Scott too. I have bought very little music in the past year, so was quite surprised when I heard the best singles shortlist for the Brits as I was going "like that, like that, like that, not that, yes, that....". My favourite song last year was 'Feel the Love' by Rudimental. I loved its old northern soul vibe and crazy horns. It's a good mood song. My favourite the year before that was Emile Sande's Heaven. I do like happy dance songs.

@ Bertie - there's an outside shot that it could be nerve related, though less likely if she has been chewing her paw for a while. One of mine has a disc pressing on his spinal cord, and I know when it's bothering him because he starts to nibble his front left ankle. I've never had any side effects with Metacam, it's generally easily tolerated.

@ lir, no food of mine dies whilst been serenaded, perhaps it's where I've been going wrong. My only driving foibles tend to come to my attention after the event in the form of an invitation to send in money and my license for amendment.

@lydiaj - I've noticed with drivers ( run a haulage company) that use satnavs all the time, they don't tend to notice how they get to places and then have to use the sat nav again, whereas if you think about it, it sticks far better. After years of heavy UK mileage, I rarely even use a map these days. I do actually enjoy getting lost:o

@ Spirit, that was a very moving clip

Another Jill Scott fan here too :)
A couple of years ago I got to see her live - she was amazing. Sadly I couldn't persuade my now-ex to come along so there was a wasted ticket... gah! If only I'd known!

I have one or two of the Late Night Tales albums - I do really like them. I should look out for more.

If you like live music Nikkster it's worth checking out the Stables in Wavendon, near Milton Keynes. A lot of what they show is the standard fare of public-run theatres across the UK, but a couple of times a year they have an absolute gem of a show. Acoustically the Jim Marshall auditorium is great (as you would expect given the name) and it's just a very nice place to hang out and have a drink and a bite too. It has a very strong jazz legacy.

Also, not far from St Pancras is the Jazz Cafe in Camden which has a fantastic artist list. You may well be familiar with these already, but just thought I'd chuck them in. Probably the biggest event coming up there is the Grandmaster Flash concert in April (they've added an extra date and tix still available).

This morning I have found the hamster dead in its cage. DD doesn't know yet. I will have to tell her when I pick her up from school.

Apparently they are supposed to live for 2-4 years, and ours wasn't due to turn 2 until June this year, so it feels premature.

    :(
