Ummm - the piece suggests it can not be moved as it is not causing an obstruction...in that case why are there yellow lines painted on the road there?

Errm, surely then someone should adjust the location of the caravan slightly, and then claim it's causing an obstruction?

Blue badge users are among the most considerate drivers on the road in my experience and their vehicles are not usually very large as to cause a dangerous obstruction.

Your parent probably has no option open but to park outside the property so manytimes cases are exaggerated but that can be expected of some characters that are around these days can't please everyone.

I'm not so sure I agree with this I'm afraid. I've seen plenty of blue badges parked too close to corners, or on lines in areas where there is limited passing space. They often seem to have mahoosive cars too!

Yep...I am with this. And my parent's car is not small.

That said, I'll be a blue badge in the future i expect. I am considerate enough not to drive when I can't see. :D

Well I must be honest I have not noticed the blue badges drivers in my area causing these naughties. Maybe the Wardens could put a Polite notice on their widscreens advising them of the problems that they are causing to other motorists.

Honestly.....I think there are good and bad drivers of all sorts. Considerate and inconsiderate ones too.

My point still stands.....if something is safe to park it's safe, if it isn't then it isn't. There is a space immeadiately behind my parents on the same road that's not double yellow. IMO this should be made disabled or where they park should be. If its not safe then nobody should park there ( pull over and pick up twenty mins might be different though) .

Fwiw, I am not for more parking control really. Less maybe.......

I completely agree with your points of view, a little more consideration by the council planners would go a long way in keeping our roads safer for all of us. They often forget about the blue badge drivers having their difficulties of mobility, often not intentionally its just that their concerns are not theirs, if that makes sense.

In our area we have more problems with these big 4x4s who park on double lines ouside of the bank with hubby sitting at the whell whilst wifey nips into the bank, and the car park is only metres away. Thats life I suppose.;)

But what is the difference between that car by the bank and a disabled drivers car?

I have more understanding than most non blue badge holders, as, um...well, I should have had one before and as I say I think I am probably headi g that way soon. Being unable to get out and about to places because you just cannot practically do it is as incapacitating as the need for the badge sometimes. But....if the argument is that it's unsafe, it's unsafe for whatever reason?.blue badge or not.

Re yellow lines. My understanding is that they are mostly to aid traffic flow, rather than safety. There are other rules re parking on corners or opposite a junction that also apply whether or not there are yellow lines present. Also, markings on the pavement are used to reinforce double yellows where you can't even unload. That's my understanding anyway.

A few years ago I did an advanced driving course through the local council - though I haven't taken the advanced test - it is a precursor to that. I found it really useful. The base material was the Police's Roadcraft manual. It taught really useful techniques that I wouldn't otherwise have used. For example, most people (me included) tend to drive in the middle of their lane. The course teaches you to move within the lane as you approach a bend so as to have better visibility. I'm not sure with the cuts whether they run it anymore though.

A difficult situation in giving an answer that could be judged as fair, but the 4x4 driver is 'knowingly' being naughty and should know better wheras the blue badge drivers, well I always give the benefit of doubt to them, because they have been given these exemptions because of a variety of reasons that they deserve to be able to make their lives a little more easier than those of us that are able to live a more normal life. Ok there are exceptions to the rule but I would always give them the benefit of the doubt. thats just me I'm afraid.

I wish you all the very best.

Thanks for wishes. I am fine, well known to be indestructable what ever happens.

I don't think 'Mens rea' impacts on the result. It's ok for other toad users or it's not. Usually it is, but requires patience. E.g when dh stops for me outsid eback and I am wife's, it might be because I cannot walk far that day. Blue badge or not, result is the same..,so more or less guilty? I would say the same. ( and one of the reasons the highstreet suffers is parking restrictions IMO.

Thanks for the line stuff viva. Intersting! I was taught to use all of the lane for visability and reduced tyre wear BUT, I have an on going 'discussion' with ex police trained driver who drives correctly but IMO rudely. Sometimes it's not enough to be 'in the right' one has to be gracious and perhaps slitly less 'within ones rights' on thje roads I think.

I am a reformed speeder:o. I pootle most of the time, and let people in because I like the cut of their gib. The worrying thing is I am still more cut and thrust than dh, I will never know how he turned that car over while he drives like the pope ona Sunday.
