My toes have been cold ... couldn't get warm at work (it's under the legal limit all day) ... came home and not been able to get bottom half of my legs and toes warm all evening, even though I've had thick socks on and my legs/feet under two layers of blankets and a pillow all evening. There's a hidden chilly draught from somewhere....
Yesterday at work I spent the day wearing 3 jumpers, a fleece, a scarf and a hat. Still cold. Hard to type with cold little fingers.
Shame you are so far or you could come and snuggle up under the duvet here.
Netweather.tv base their forecasts on the American GFS computer model which is sometimes less accurate for the UK than the UK Met Office and European ECM models but in reality they are all much of a muchness.
Viva don't let DH bring a battery home with him...I think....0 -
When I walk the dog at night my key won't turn in the frozen lock when I get back and/or my fingers are too cold to get the key to work.
I'd keep a can of de-icer beside the door and give it a spray when I got back.0 -

A cigarette lighter to heat the key is very effective. The trouble with de-icer is that it reduces the temperature still further due to the energy required to change the state of the water from solid to liquid.
If instead you add energy in the form of a warm key you melt the ice without risking making things worse.

Smartphone apps. Just downloaded Skype and Viber both of which I've seen namechecked on the thread. Are they any good? Does anybody use both or do you just pick one?
I use Skype or Facetime. If one doesn't work try the other. (Facetime requires both users to be on Apple devices, but ipad to ipad the quality is better.)I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. No wrath from me. I generally prefer to deal with ice by using heat rather than chemicals where possible anyway.
The only possible problem would be if the metal key conducted the heat from the lighter to PN's fingers too effectively and burnt her (or got dropped to avoid that). If I were to try your method, I'd definitely want to be wearing gloves!

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I won't find out. He has gone and booked himself a ryanair flight out of stansted:(
No tier points, no avios, no lounge access, no seat allocated and he has to check in on time even if the flight is delayed. He is going to be so moody tomorrow. And only one evening flight home, so if the return flight is cancelled, he will be at some strange out of town airport with no flight.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. You could clear your inbox and post a request on this thread.
I did that once and got back advice to meet up with travellers who belong to another forum once we had arrived at the airport. It was too complicated and felt a bit weird to me.
The person who replied was very helpful...I may have been over cautious.
Having said all that it reminds me of a pm I got a couple of days ago.
In 2009 I contributed to a thread about keloid scars (I have a few). Over the weekend I got pm directing me from the thread to a new non MSE forum for people with such scars.
I had a peak at the forum but was bit concerned in case it was a haven for fetishists who like lumpy bumpy skin on older women. So I have stayed safe amongst the NP.0
