We have now got rain to wash away the snow so underfoot is much more firmer than before.

This afternoon my wife and I went on our usual wakie with our dog and remarked at the strange smell in our area, it was similar to the smell of diesel oil. But what a whiff then I looked on the internet news and people are now complaining about the smell all over the south west and apparentley it is coming from a plant 75 miles north of Paris and it has taken on the name of 'la pong' which I thought was really funny, here is the link for your good selves to read. Keep the windows closed if you are in the south of England:)

"It all stems from a gas leak at a chemical plant in Rouen, which is more than 60 miles north west of Paris.

The substance responsible is mercaptan - a harmless additive to natural gas.

But while it might not be toxic - it doesn't half smell."

It's the smell that's added to natural gas (because that doesn't smell on its own).
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Oh ... I noticed a strange smell earlier outside of work.... wondered what it was.... I felt I could almost put a name to it .... but failed to name that smell.

Today it pee'd down - and caused localised flooding. As I left the office to drive home I noticed there was sleet.... as I drove from work to home, a short distance, but closer to the actual beach, there was less snow in the sleet, ending up as rain at my house.

Lydia - one was from my ex mother in law who knows all about James' joints! I did lay it down on the line and she responded that she was joking...hmm, it didn't appear that way when she was agreeing with someone else and liking his post!

I would have thought that ex mother in law should realise her position is non essential and if found sitting on the naughty step too often would be at risk of exclusion.

It is ... some posters here live in a parallel universe where everything's just how it should be if the world were perfect.... meanwhile, back in our Universe, the likes of you and I would just lose out, get a b0ll0cking, lose our jobs, lose brownie points... and more.

    :)

I must be the 'some posters', I think.

I don't think I'm in a parallel universe. Misskool lives quite some way from work, has no car at the moment, and she said that the trains were not running. She also said that it was essential that she got to work. In that case, I'd have thought it would be sensible for her to contact her manager to discuss the best thing to do/ask for help.

As it turned out, the trains were running, and she got to work under her own steam. (No pun intended.)

Re the chemical smell. Could it be in Herts too? I got a very intense smell and thought my engine was about to blow up (it could have been a combination of smells as the exhaust from the car in front was also close at the time). I was absolutely amazed when - later in the day - I stuck my key in the ignition and it turned straight away.

ETA: just saw your post Pastures, so I'm guessing the answer is yes.

I don't think any one is really 'some posters'. All of us have diffwrent success and failures in life.

I am in awe of most of you. But I know we are all human.

I love the very thin needle end to this stalleg ( hmmm, thinks about tights dangling from a washing line and mites jumping off the ground to bite) stallegtite.
