Do you still have connections there? Perhaps you could call up someone locally and ask for suggestions?

Never lived there myself, so no connections. Parents moved a few years ago to where they grew up; they moved away when they got married, so I grew up elsewhere.

She is not really frail, just can't carry stuff. She walks every day.

She was quite happy with the coach journey but was adamant she was only going to stay with me for a few days. I offered to take her home but she said it was unfair to expect me to do two trips in one week. So she chose for me to collect her and then just take her to the coach for the trip home. I did suggest that she stays a few more days and I would then take her home but she declined.

TBH doing 150+ miles on a monday, tuesday, friday and saturday would be a lot for me, whereas I was willing to do the journey on the monday and tuesday of last week and then again this week.

I'm just really annoyed because had it all worked out, she would have done the trip more often and now she won't.

Would a solution be that she takes a cab to the coach station on the outward journey to travel to you; it may be less intimidating and easier to confirm with the cab company as she is starting from home, then you do the return journey with her by car.

Really, even in the early days of your romance? What about tasting each others meals in restaurants? (this is probably our least appetising habit, though we try not to be gratuitous about it)

No. Our courtship and wooing involved many things but not plate and crockery sharing. I don't thnk I have ever tasted his meal in a restaurant or vice versa.

We do however take sips out of the same flask cup.

We eat at the same time when we share a plate. We just...share the plate/bowl and either dip in two forks or alternate. :o

We both have the same meal in the cafe most mornings, but swap bits over.

She doesn't like fried slice/eggs, I don't like mushrooms/tomatoes, so it works well. We don't consider it rude, but the owners of the cafe we eat in, do, so it's discreet

Question for the NP; if you're on the phone to the bank and they notice that savings are going down each month, but can't see why or where they're ending up (going to another bank, before going to pay for what they need to), would you be a little offended to be asked if you were in financial difficulty?

I had this yesterday, and got a little offended at the statement 'but 2/3 of your savings balance has come out in the last year' (we're talking about a significant 6-figure sum here). Surely what I do with my money, as long as it's legal, is nothing to do with a bank?

I hate mushrooms, my DH doesn't eat tomatoes so we often swap those on our plates if we get served them when we are out.

Re the bank - probably that they want to sell you stuff and are fishing to know more about your finances.

Welcome to the new old fashioned way.

There are plenty of scams where people borrow large sums of money from various banks and shuffle it round for years before anyone realizes what's going on.

Also this sort of thing can be an indicator of money laundering.

Banks are increasingly being required by law to get into your business. If you don't like it you'll have to run your business interests without a bank account I'm afraid.

    Everyone ok in the weather?

Tbh, it's not even that cold here. It was colder in parts of the house last year than it is outside today here. But my resistance to cold has dropped (as has my pain threahhold) which is a side effect of the meds. Having come in my hands are stinking and throbbing as if I had mean making snowmen not just walking around. I didn't even break any ice with my hands this morning, and was wearing thick gloves!

Only a week ago you were complaining about the damp and wishing for some proper winter weather to harden up the ground...I used to love the cold but now I tense up against it too much which is just the wrong thing to do. Did you suggest in another post that your new boiler struggled to keep up providing heating or hot water but not both?

Banks: We move loads of money through Lloyds each month, they think we are loaded and hopefully write frequent letters asking whether we would like to review our accounts and may be consider a few more of their products? (We only move money in and out as they offer 4% on instant access and pay interest over the weekend even if the money is elsewhere between Saturday and Monday - I may not be able to be in 2 places at once but my money can be :)).
    I think....
