Sometimes life is awesome and sometimes it's crap Andover of the time it's in the middle. It ain't deep but it's true.

Andover? What's so dreadful about Andover? It's not great, but crap might be pushing it.....

One of the properties we made an offer on was near Andover. I'll be honest, I hated the house, but loved the land. I felt a deep kinship with the land where an ancestor of mine according to family legend, no proof and highly romanticised, fought a battle.

There would have been excellent opportunity for an events business there too. Which I would have enjoyed I think.

I am not sure I buy into the mallows pyramid totally. E.g. I know a lot of people for whom the blue section at the top should be second to the bottom and many who acheive all but yellow, but don't get 'too' sidetracked by it. I even know some for whom the yellow bit is fairly abhorant pin the way most of us desire it.

Green often is oddly placed in realtiy too. Near the bottom for many, (perhaps rendering yellow permanantly unacheivable in some manifevtation) and never acheived by those who score everything else up to blue. In truth I think you need the green for the yellow to be truely realised.

I have spent the afternoon painting the bathroom. I paint everything white because it is easy and then I bung up huge fu ck off canvases from dwell or JL. I would love the money to cover the walls in some artists I admire but at around 2k for a decent sized painting I have learned to make do and mend.

There is something wonderfully restful about painting, like housework it allows your mind to go for a wander. Before you know it you are thinking about stuff you normally leave strictly alone

I nearly died earlier in the year. I was ill and without the magic of modern medicine I wouldn't be here. That's a definite and very frightening first for me

I have been ill before and medicine has hastened my recovery but this time it didn't hasten anything, it saved my life.

Before I was ill I was immortal, indestructible and now, now I am not. It concentrates the mind

That which didn't kill me hasn't made me stronger, it has just frightened the bejeesus out of me.

I so admire you all, you constantly rise above fear while it strangles me....

    Wageslave.

I am not usually terribly frightened, most of the time I am able to remember tis is extra to what I was alloted. This summer though I too was terrified. I have no advice on how YOU can feel better. For me hiding makes it worse. Knowing my will etc is how I want it to be, that I trust dh as my nok, that I know what my limits are.

Itsalso interesting to know how thinks within us change.. After the first time I was adamant I wanted a dnr. This summer I was less sure. I worked hard to get well as this, and it's tiring. I am not sure how I would feel we're I to be to square one, but I am no longer adamant I cannot face it.

Interesting. It wasn't really the specifics of the stuff in the diagram that I wanted to post. I had a vague idea I'd seen such a pyramid somewhere and googled it. I agree with you that the contents of the layers of the pyramid vary amongst people, and so does the order, up to a point. (I think breathing is at the very bottom for everyone, followed by water, food etc.) But I think there's a lot of truth in the idea that everyone's got some kind of order of priorities, and that when something really fundamental is threatened, you let the "higher" stuff go hang, but when the basics are in place, you can concentrate on the important-but-I-won't-die-without-it stuff.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I've been out this afternoon to explore the local out-of-town shopping centre.

I have somehow come back with a pair of shoes, a pair of sandals (which I saw and loved earlier in the year but couldn't justify the price - got them for 70% off) and a couple of random things from TK Maxx.

Random thing number 1: some lobster crackers

Just because they made me smile and were 50p (which I think should cancel out the posh alert). At least now I'll be prepared if ever I buy lobster or a crab! :rotfl:

    Random thing number 2:

The friend who I will be seeing in the New Year with (in Herts :)) mentioned last time we met up that she was looking for a quirky dustpan and brush. She also sometimes has back issues so I thought this was perfect for her. And if she doesn't like it, I will gladly keep it! :D

I think she will love it, but I'm secretly hoping she wont! There is even a little ladybird on the flower on the brush handle :) They have quite a few similar sets at TK Maxx.

I will keep an eye out in Lidl, thanks for the tip. I think it is by far and away the most ridiculous piece of kitchenware I have ever bought, but it was so shiny and eye-catching I couldn't resist.

Having thought I had heard most things I heard another saying last night which I am not sure is too well known:

"It's not what you eat between Christmas and New Year that matters, it's what you eat between New Year and Christmas".
