Please make room in the sad corner......the heating is not going on this week after all (or rather it might be in the 'new' bit, but not the main bit ) Minus three at night too.
Plumber is going to see if he can reasonably get me a working hot tap for the bath though.
Lydiaj and I were hoping she would be visiting me soon....but I don't want to make a date till we have some heating...because her little monkeys will need it after climbing and playing. (I think her ds and my dh have a plan to investigate the hayloft).0 -

He's much smilier than most English punks (were there any big Scottish, Welsh or NI punk bands? I can't recall any apart from The Skids.)
There was loads of good Belgian techno about in the early 90s, like this (if you like that sort of thing, it's not really sitting about and listening to music, more 'getting off your head in a warehouse' music).

Starjets Undertones from NI and the first band I remember from Wales was Scritti Politti which was post-punk..
Was most bemused when I moved to the SE and found that all these "working-class hero" bands were from places like Hersham, Merton Park, Guildford, Woking etc. which turned out to be not quite the hell-holes we all imagined them to be.;)
Always felt that punk started in the biggest cities (New York. London) and the further away you got from them the less common it was. Just realised I've generalised from a sample size of 2 countires. Wheezy, viva might have experiecne of other countries to pass on.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

When I lived in Australia it was pre-punk and I was young, so I don't really know any Aussie rockers. When I lived there in the 60s and early 70s, a lot of American music was popular, especially Motown. Also all the British bands of the day. I can even remember hearing on Aussie radio that the Beatles were splitting up. In terms of Aussie artists, all I remember is Johnny Farnham having a hit with Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head, which was many years before Your the Voice.
The biggest problem I have from back then is that the TV was very different. Virtually nobody I know here remembers Gilligan's Island, which was then my absolute favourite show (I also liked the Banana Splits, I Dream of Jeannie, the Jetsons and the cartoon Jackson 5, Aussie TV was very American back then). Though in retrospect not remembering Gilligan may be a good thing. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? If you soften the drinking water, do you increase the risk of osteoporosis?
Large parts of the UK manage perfectly well with naturally softened water, without a higher incidence of osteoporosis.
And if I do get it I will blame genetics: my grandmother, mother and 2 maternal aunts have had it.
As it happens as a teenager I used to get painful calf cramps at night and some quack recommended calcium tablets, that I took for years. Now they reckon your diet during bone development is an important indicator of future bone density, so I could be alright.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I must admit being totally ignorant about the whole punk/new-wave/techno/acid/... thingy
Got into hard rock & heavy metal at a young age. I blame my mate Vincent, who always invited us to listen to the latest LP's he bought (Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, ....)
Me with a bunch of blank cassette tapes (ferro is bad, chrome is good!) on my bike to his place, bonus being that his mum didn't mind the music being played loud.
Then off to the disused railway track near his house to race his souped up Honda SS50, ah those were the days.
I sound old now.0 -
Rezillos/Revillos, Big Country, Orange Juice from Scotland

Also Stiff Little Fingers (NI), Altered Images (Scotland) Tourists (Scotland)
I liked the Rezillos and The Sex Pistols best of the Punks. Paul Weller comes from Woking, I know because I have family there.vivatifosi wrote: »When I lived in Australia it was pre-punk and I was young, so I don't really know any Aussie rockers.

So did we. We were in a band called Eldrine (Google them). My part was given to Beso Tsikelaishvili, and OH's part was given to Mari Tomaradze (one of the littlens we work with!)
Talking of littlens, everything's good over in the Heineken Music Hall....
Now, where was the Heineken?
Here's the first rehearsal. Can I just get someone to tell me if they can understand the English, as I'm probably not the best one to judge!

Used to go to school with, and shared a lift there, with some guys who formed this band, which deffo isn't punk.:DThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
More problems... TV's given up the ghost ... not enough signal. It retunes itself 3-4x a night and most channels are too choppy to watch.
Tried to sign up with broadband, but I can't as they don't have my address on the drop down lists and without an address on that list I can't get broadband. I did get a date of 6th December from one before they said they couldn't do it; so even if/when I get that sorted out it's another 10+ days.
I've put forward the address to register with Royal Mail - so awaiting their response.... although I don't have email, so won't be able to pounce on their response and act/reply.
I typed this into Notebook as I can't get a signal again tonight from home.... and am hoping that (eventually) the MSE page will load .... but it takes about 10 minutes before I get a clue if it will.
Silvercar's suggestion re phone paid off as I plugged one in and got the number of the line OK.
So I am standing here, no furniture, no telly ... no Internet. Things ... just ... suck really.... and on top of all that I took my jar of coffee to work today and bl00dy left it there!!
All I can do all evening, again, is sit on the floor, stand up, pace back and forth ... and repeat for the next 6 hours.... or, play solitaire (again).0
