Another smart idea in a small house without much space was a room divided into two by bunk beds bulit into a wall unit so each bed was in a separate room IYSWIM.:D

Took me a while to get what you meant but it sounds like a great idea.

First thing is it's a good idea and stylish.

It's not a new or original idea and the site doesn't have any address details from what I could see and they are also looking for "fitters" to join up with them nationwide by email and probably without many quality checks.

If you knew a good local carpenter then they could do a good job if you showed them what you want.

Art I liked, so may not be everyone's taste:

Trying to quote zag but not working.

This sounds like a neat idea to me but google is not being my friend for images. I'm thinking to work best the room door would want to be on the wall at the foot of the bed so neither side was on the walk through route to the other side

You are quite correct, you do want one we would not be without ours now after a year - salt is 8 quid a bag lasts about 6 weeks and I bet we use more water than you.

I'm struggling to remember now where I saw it but it was a big room with a dividing wall/partitiion. One side had a low-level bed partially in a recess with some "cupboards" high above it, the other side had a floor-level "cupboard unit" with ladder to a bed on top. In each room you could only see and get access to one of the two bunks.

Both of those cupboards were false as they just masked where the other room's bunk bed intruded into the room. There were real wardrobes and cupboards as well obviously in both rooms.

Not a DIY expert or handyman by any means and not sure I'm describing this at all well. Very neatly solved a space problem. Much admire a house that's like a TARDIS.

Yes- and I just found there was a brief thread about this about 6 years ago on this forum.

Wouidn't work if neither room had a window. I did get a room split when our DD was on her way but didn't do it the split bunk-bed route. Did divide a room into a small bedroom and a small nursery which helped the resale value when we moved out.
Soft water's the only drinkable water to me. Can't drink hard tap water .

I hated the water softener my parents had installed. Noisy at night, uses lots of salt ( note pet owners...if your pets water tap is beyond your appliances unless you want to kill your pets it's useless as none of your appliances will be on it) .

It was cruddy for my hair ( for some reason my hair seems to be the only hair in the world that prefers hard water!). Nope. Never again.

I kind of had something similar built to order 20 years ago ... "built to order" is a bit of a posh word for "met a good carpenter at a friend's house and he fancied me, so used that goodwill to get it done at a bargain price". My under the stairs was part of the living room, so I had a long wooden top piece put in, which the telly etc sat on, then under that one long door (held in place with small magnets), then at the pointy end, I had a pull out section. I wanted one long run so I could keep the Xmas tree and the vacuum in there. Worked a treat.

Wouldn't pay that POSH ALERT!!! price though - and as they don't mention price it'll be daft.
    :)

I've never been a fan of "lots of small cupboards/drawers", you end up finding that nothing fits any of them well. That's why, for kitchens, I'm a fan of deep pan drawers rather than cupboards.

Think the guy said £450 including fitting.

    Now I can quote again.

I thought you weren't supposed to drink softened water cos of too much sodium?
