Hiya Wageslave
Been a trying day today, youngest had a major outburst at school, something I have been warning about the potential of since September due to the lack of support in the classroom, new teachers not knowing about his problems and being dropped into a completely different school for some lessons with no prep or organisation.
Plus, I had a funeral to go to this afternoon for a lady who kept me sane when things were really tough with middle son, both before and after my marriage fell to pieces. She was the one who came up with a safety valve like thing for him when he felt he was about to blow, she was the one who talked things through with me when things were getting too much for me, she was the one who was there for James when he wasn't coping with the demands of the other two.
She may not have been everyones cup of tea, some would look at her lifestyle and free spirit and make judgements but you could not find a kinder, more generous, free thinking, individual...she would literally give you her last penny if you needed it.
A very very emotional day and I now feel very drained.
Sorry to hear about youngest. Hope the school start sorting stuff out properly for him now.
Your friend sounds great. Just the sort of person to have in your life when things are going wrong. So sorry to hear you have lost her.The girls mother has been in touch. It is near Christmas and likely she wants money.
I won't die from this this it will just feel as if I am.
You know, I hate my mother but when my life was at my worst she was the only person I trusted enough to talk me down from the ledge.
She did it with stuff, only my fu coking mother can counteract heartbreak with new sofas. I clung to her and if she had told me to buy a polar bear I would have found a way.
Last night was te first time in over a year i have been allowed contact with the girls. Their mother wants money. I swore I would never do this again.
The eldest is so angry, she won't talk to me. She blames me. She feels abandoned
That which does not kill us just does not kill us. I am no stronger.
I will send their mother anything she asks for and nothing will help
Oh wageslave. I wish I could make it better for you. I will pray for wisdom and comfort for you and for the girls too.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
the managing agent on our block of flats has installed locks on all the meter cupboards in the garage without telling us about it. i emailed the chap and he told me that i needed to get an "FB2 key" to open it, and that was that, which i thought was a bit off - "surely i should be able to read my own electricity meter without having to pay £7 for a key", i thought.
well anyway, i paid for the key and went down to read the meter last night. key didn't fit well in lock but i managed to get it in. couldn't turn it though, and then found i couldn't get it out. so went and got some pliers, and managed to open it. took the meter reading...fine. came to try to shut it and couldn't get the key out. fiddled around with the pliers a lot and eventually managed to shear the end off the key with the door open and the lock in the locked position. so now the door is permanently unlocked and the lock is ruined.
even though i wasn't trying to do it, in retrospect it appears to be the best possible outcome!0 -
Now I can quote again.
I thought you weren't supposed to drink softened water cos of too much sodium?
I grew up in a natural softwater area (supposedly the softest in the world) and ended up in a hardwater one. Wouldn't drink softened water, for the very reason you'ver mentioned.
Hard water was a surprise to me as they don't teach anything about it or even mention it at all north of the border. If they ever do a national water grid presumably that'll spread the soft water further south. Have heard though that the calcium in hard water's meant to be good for the heart. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

i've stopped drinking london tap water now unless its been boiled. i'm sure there's something evil in it. plus i like fizzy water more than still.0 -

Soft water is more delicious thought.
Michaels, the drinking water taps are not allowed to be on a soft water system, it's not allowed because exactly a you say, too much sodium.
If you are planning a kitchen from scratch and can allow for water softener to pass through white goods but not tap maybe there is worth.
For me......I would rather have the limescale.0 -

I discovered while googling that as well as a boiling water tap, and a filtered water tap, there is a three function tap that also gives you fizzy water.0 -

All our water is filtered except the kitchen (and outside tap and boiler filler loop). Drinking water comes from the fridge so is cooled and filtered. Washing machine is in the utility but the dishwasher has had to end up with hard water as getting soft water to it was just too difficult.
I don't know why you don't like the wtaer - it literally feels softer and of course the bathrooms stay so much cleaner.I think....0 -
We just have bog standard taps and water....I like water but only if it is NOT fizzy.
Can't stand fizzy water. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Fridge water always tastes rank to me. Dh really wanted it, so we got it, but unless the filter really works, I doubt it will be something I have. (I cannot have chilled drinks any more anyway, so will have to let it come to room temp, so MIT as well have a jug on the table for me.
Wouldn't the salt in washers hashed help anyway, with water softness?
Soft water is easier to Keep bathrooms clean with, and I love the taste of naturally soft water, but I really do object top the water softening systems. Ours was greedier than you describe yours, I topped up the salt weekly, but it never got empty. I also found it made my hair really fluffy, difficult to manage, frizzier. I suspect salt is not that great for hair like mine.
Fwiw, I am really sensitve to water tastes. The best mse tip for me was that drawing water in to a jug and leaving it makes it taste better, and it's absolutely true. It's not as delicious as panna or anything like that, but it's nice.0 -
anyone else pleased it's friday?
Just annoyed that rain is due again at the weekend, I need to be out clearing and planting!!0
