Actually I don't mind paying tax cos I am sure most of it goes on things I approve of - it is when it is much more personal and I can see that the money is actually just encouraging behaviour that is of no benefit to the recipient that I object. Tough love.

Long ago when I lived in London, for a time I went to Families Anon. I llearnt of tough love and the Serenity Prayer:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

My mum always said: "God gave us our relations; thank God we can choose our friends."

The full prayer is worth reading, thought the abbreviated one is probably one of the wisest things written.

Well, I think clever. We are planning to use the lowest bit under our stairs as a cat litter box cubby, with a Tom and jerry style big mouse hole, and the thing hinged for human access...

I kind of had something similar built to order 20 years ago ... "built to order" is a bit of a posh word for "met a good carpenter at a friend's house and he fancied me, so used that goodwill to get it done at a bargain price". My under the stairs was part of the living room, so I had a long wooden top piece put in, which the telly etc sat on, then under that one long door (held in place with small magnets), then at the pointy end, I had a pull out section. I wanted one long run so I could keep the Xmas tree and the vacuum in there. Worked a treat.

Wouldn't pay that POSH ALERT!!! price though - and as they don't mention price it'll be daft.
    :)

I've never been a fan of "lots of small cupboards/drawers", you end up finding that nothing fits any of them well. That's why, for kitchens, I'm a fan of deep pan drawers rather than cupboards.

Clever. Our curent house had fitted kitchen cupboards and an understairs cupboard and that's all the storage it had. Full stop. The more storage ideas you can come up with the better.
One of the cleverest ideas I saw was cupboards above doors.

Another smart idea in a small house without much space was a room divided into two by bunk beds bulit into a wall unit so each bed was in a separate room IYSWIM.:D

Back in the 70s I read this - beautiful for its time.
The Prophet - Kahlil Gibran :)

Not new either, we have one of them in the older than its georgian front wall room. It makes a lovely doorway, it feels deep and cubby like.
