LL's definitely got something odd going on. Presents one person to the world; is another once you're trapped.... talks the talk, doesn't walk the walk..
I don't think it's that 'odd' meaning unusual, in that a lot of people are like that.
Dh is quite noisy when it's just him and me, never heard him be noisy with others around.0 -

Sharing's one thing, but being watched, controlled, told what to do/eat etc is another. And the place is a pigsty..... days go by before the hob's cleared of debris and fat splatters..... days go by with the same (burnt) dishes abandoned in the sink.
I also don't get the full "sharing" bit.... it's clear that this is my room and the rest is hers.... I get one tiny cupboard in the kitchen, one fridge shelf, one freezer drawer ... and it's all her stuff/family photos everywhere (hall, living room, kitchen).
Houses are becoming less and less affordable here IMHO. We're overstretched on two incomes. I can easily imagine people in teir 50s struggling to find their own place here. If nobody does something soon, London might as well sail off and become another country outside England.:(

We know people in their fifties who share in London, as traditional flat shares, as lodgers and as LL wit lodgers.0 -

I wonder if there's a difference between being house sharers and a lodger? When you're a lodger, it's always 'their' house, whereas when you're sharing it wouldn't matter if you put your stuff/photos in the living room (if you have some). I've only ever been a lodger, once, and it was staying at a friend's house so all of the people in her pics I knew. It was lovely. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Very glad to hear it - I must say as I spend most weekends making repairs/upgrades to outdated IT equipment I am more than slightly jealous.
At the end of last winter our car was in the garage. As most of you know it is 'possible' to fit two cars in our garage if it is empty. We now just need to rearrange what is in the garage to get the car back in this winter. It is proving to be a major task...I think....0 -

Dh loves lodging, he finds it far less of a 'stress' than sharing, where things need to be decided etc.
He has always been made really welcome, and the people who he lives in an attic flatlet of now, and his first London landlady, have become friends I think we will be in touch with for a long time (forever? Til the bitter end?)
Along the way, both having people stay and dh lodging (and both of us in sharing) we have picked up some mistakes we will not make again I hope. They aren't very pc so probably best avoided discussing the rates rules for sharing and lodging.0 -

The hour change has really upset our dog. When he came to us (he was rehomed to us aged 5 as his owners were overtaken by increasing frailty) his routine incude him being given a Bonio at 8pm by the lady of the house. We have carried on this routine.
If anyone else gives him a Bonio or if he has it at another time he does not consider it the 'real Bonio' and he has to have one at the right time. You can set your watch by him. he comes and gets me at 8pm.
Today of course he wanted the Bonio at 7pm as he does not know about GMT/BST. To effect a transition I planned to give him him his Biscuit at 7.30. He cried pitifully for half an hour until he got it. He was very upset.
There is worse to come, we have runout and I am nowhere near a Bonio selling shop tomorrow an Mr S is off to Italy at dawn.0 -
Oh dear spirit, that made me laugh. Ours only have a bonio ( or cheap copy cat bonio) as their 'bedtime biscuit'. This means in the long evenings, that every time they go out for a widdle in the evening they hope it's 'the' wee before bed and their is hopeful jiggling and shoving.
They very rarely get 'daytime biscuit' which is half a bonio, and they know it means much they same ' settle down for a long time'.0 -
I am a lodger (sharing with daughter of owner). Everything is in, most of it unpacked. Person who I'm lodging with seems nice enough... Early days but its a good start. Flat is more shabby than chic but definitely capable. Only issue is can't work out how to get a signal on the TV (supposed to be plugged into a no longer active sky box, but not convinced it is) and flatmate has gone out so looks like no Homeland for me tonight. Oh well. Goes off to find out who is out of Strictly...0
