Not sure if that's possible.... they'd have to be sawdust.

    Earth, just pressed earth. :D

Our old kitchen units were not far off our age ( a friend of mine had them so reognised them immeadiately).

I always avoid this sort of stuff.

I got John Grisham.... never heard of him.

He's an author. Quite a few of his books have been adapted for films, so you may have seen one. The Pelican Brief, The Chamber, and The Rainmaker are his typical stuff, though he also wrote the book that spurred Christmas with the Kranks. On TV, one of his books was also the basis for the TV series The Firm.

Have you checked inside the boiler?!

We had a rather panicked phone call on Friday morning from worried builders thinking that the B&B lady had died. She didn't turn up for dinner Thursday, or breakfast Friday. Turns out it was just a misunderstanding, she didn't realise they were there and she was having a rest :o

I got him too. Don't read him much. But have got the new Ian M. Banks Culture novel:j
Prices are ludicrous. If I was on an average wage (for London - £40k or so is average full time I think) I would just give up and move somewhere else I think. If your househild income is less than £100k you haven't got a hope in hell of having an acceptable standard of living. I literally don't understand how most people afford it - the number of people who earn enough to actually buy property in London is pretty small compared to the number of ludicrously priced houses. Something will have to give eventually..

In terms of housing, I don't see how anyone could aspire to a London house. They're the shabby end of the housing market, and no mistake.

Gardens are postage stamp-sized, barely big enough to hang up some washing.

Bedrooms would be called boxrooms anywhere else. Garages could hold a motor bike if you flattened it with powerful hammers.

Front gardens are parking spaces for a car if you're lucky.

Two-bed houses are the norm, three-bed are rare and our four-bed is really a three-bed plus box-room with no parking space (and we were mega-lucky to end up with that).

Tiny side-roads are blocked with lorries delivering skips/whatever as almost no houses are big enough without being extended. Plus no house is so small that it can't be subdivided into flats the size of punch-and-judy-booths.

Frankly anywhere else the council would have condemned everything , sent in a bulldozer and built proper-sized modern habitable dwellings.

All my mates living outside London are living in adequate housing that looks palatial compared with London.;)

Depends, dunnit, on when you bought and how much money you have. The first home my parents had was a west London bargain. Near a park, but also with a decent sized garden of its own....big enough for a play house, a lawn that the dog (I rmember just owning one dog) and I could tear around in, oh, and a swing, I loved that swing, and nothing was crowded. My godmother has the whole of a three or four storey town house, which I am told had a nice garden ( she has so much junk I have never got to the back door to look at it). Dh's cousin has a huge house in north London where he breeds dogs and keeps chicken. He once had two goats. (zone two). His brother lives about 700 yards away and has no harden, but a house so big you never know how many people applying for asylum he has living there (his pet cause).

    Dog dog doing well but.....

    .....

The bet doesn't want to change the dressing for the full eight weeks. That might have been fine had he bandaged it adaquately!

Two talon like claws appeared through over the weekend, and yesterday I could clearly see the outline of the split, and he has only gone over the toe and sole ONCE with vet wrap. That might be ok for a chihuahua but for a 'proper' sized dog that was never, ever going to last. She has been following instructions entirely, stomping around a confinded area of the how, comfort breaks in the garden. It's obviously more comfortable than the first one is, because she is stomping on it, but I am really annoyed that itsme will have to go back for such a stupid reason.

He said if we did redress he wanted to do it under general, (he doesn't know what a star she is about the dressing changes but also it is easier to get a good 'fit' while she is out for the count.

But ofcourse, that will cost a fair bit, and I feel that it's not really 'our' fault and I a, annoyed she might have to have another general and that we have to stump up when first job was inadequate.

Hi LydiaJ -I'm here but have lapsed into lurking and a bit behind the times. I love this thread, it's like a serial with a very upscale cast. Awards for everyone!
