I know lj's avatar says Wolverhampton, but when he said he walked to work once, he must have walked all night to get there? I wondered if he'd moved or just liked walking alot.

At peak busy time, when we work 12+ hour days for about 4 weeks, I stay at a frineds who lives an hours walk away.

Bracing walk - there's a couple of decent size hills to walk up.

Good time to listen to music though...

Depends, dunnit, on when you bought and how much money you have. The first home my parents had was a west London bargain. Near a park, but also with a decent sized garden of its own....big enough for a play house, a lawn that the dog (I rmember just owning one dog) and I could tear around in, oh, and a swing, I loved that swing, and nothing was crowded. My godmother has the whole of a three or four storey town house, which I am told had a nice garden ( she has so much junk I have never got to the back door to look at it). Dh's cousin has a huge house in north London where he breeds dogs and keeps chicken. He once had two goats. (zone two). His brother lives about 700 yards away and has no harden, but a house so big you never know how many people applying for asylum he has living there (his pet cause).

Obviously there are lots of big, spacious houses in London, but unless you've got a million quid plus you aren't going to be buying one these days! Plus as time goes on more and more of the houses get carved up into cramped flats which feature "contemporary open plan living" which means someone took the kitchen out and stuck it down one side of the living room so they could pretend a one bedroom flat was a two bedroom flat.

The most difficult thing these days seems to be finding anywhere with a separate kitchen. Open plan might seem like a good idea, but you soon (within 10 seconds) get bored of having the kettle, washing machine, sink and extractor fan in the same room as the tv.

I have never understood the attraction of open plan living, for this reason (and others like it). As Pastures can no doubt confirm, sometimes people who share a dwelling want to be able to get away from each other into separate spaces.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

That's what the utility room is for. You can also get "quieter" appliances these days.

We've been discussing this on TMF as some of us have been punting Mirror Group shares. Morgan told the Leveson Inquiry he knew nothing about Phone Hacking, although he shows how easy it was in his Autobiography written several years ago. It now transpires several Celebs are suing the Paper for having their phones hacked while he was Editor.

If I were him I'd be feeling rather uncomfortable right now ;)

utility room? that is an alien concept in flats. if there ever was one, then it would have been converted into a bedroom years ago. the only real solution is to put the washing machine in the bathroom, but most bathrooms aren't big enough for that to be an option. i wanted to put our TV and sofa in the spare bedroom but the mrs wouldn't have it.

    Course.

It's a good idea for when your looking for your house though if it's within budget.

Lovely to have you back, lemonjelly.

Is the Beethoven violin concerto on your list?

    It is now...;)
Hahaha. Two of those were recital pieces for me. :)

Which ones. What did you play? Do you still play?

We Have missed you LJ and very much hope for more of the pleasure of your company. We have had several old friend drop in of late which is always nice although we seem to have scared off a few new regulars too ( middymum we miss you).

I'm really pleased you are getting the chance to read, I am doing a little on my hated commute and it helps to take the edge off it.

    What are you reading michaels?
I've (unusually for me) had a bit of a fiction binge recently. Yesterday I started the JK Rowling novel. Got through about 130 pages. It is holding me, & interesting thus far. Not too sure where it is going, though I have a few ideas...

Zag - I have 3 of banks' culture novels. I like his other stuff, but never been a huge fantasy/sci-fi reader - hell, I've never read lord of the rings.

I've recently acquired dead air, which I was going to start last week but didn't, & have had the bridge strongly recommended. I know I have execession, which I think is the first. Is it important to read them in order?
