    Your keen

Well I realise today that my worsening "coughing man flu" is in fact whooping cough.

Great! 100 days and nights of this cwap! grrrrrr :(

Anyone else had it? There seems to be an epidemic this year.

Not so much keen as committed:(.

I have had a cough for 2 months now and DH is moaning for me to go to the docs. I don't think its whooping cough though. I have had a speight of coldy type things and the cough has been a constant throughout. The joys of working with the public.

How are you delivering the pony to a different continent?

Oh no, we keep the pony. :D. It's just 'theirs' for the sake of visits and, if that's the way the wind blows, Facebook. :D. Both my own neices had ponies I kept for them before they lived with me, and they left them, took them, sent them back again etc etc.

I don't think a pony would be practical in NYC for parents with iffy jobs and not even a rental home of their own.

I need to find the time. I've been run down for a while now, even on hols. For good measure, I flew home with food poisoning so couldn't eat anything on the flight for fear of what could happen in a small space:eek:.

You would know before now if it was whooping cough.

Sounds like you need some anti biotic, supplements and a good few days rest.
  • Back in June I was run down and had cough for weeks - a doctor friend said it sounded like whooping cough to her....

So I went to GP; at the same time the "if you've had a cough for a few weeks" advert was on the telly - so all they could think about was "The Big C".

Fair do's, its a biggie and not to be ignored.... so antibiotics , and a chest X-ray. Chest X-ray clear (thank goodness), 3 different types of antibiotics, continued cough..... then the whooping cough thing hit the headlines.

Unfortunately the GP will have their own pet ailment, and sometimes won't actually listen to what you're telling them. But I'm convinced it was whooping cough....

So go to the doctors, and get it treated!!!

I washed my hair this morning, pinned it down so it'd dry pretty straight .... and still spent 10 minutes just now straightening it, so in the morning when I straighten it it'll only take 5 minutes.

How long does it take other people?

... and it's not particularly straight yet to be honest, nor will it be in the morning......

Mine just grows straight. Occasionally I find the time to mousse it and blow dry it so it has a bit of body, which I prefer, but generally I'm in too much of a hurry. I wash it and comb it, and then either let it dry naturally, or else turn the car heater to blow at it if I think it will still be wet by the time I get to work. That's along with putting my make-up on at a series of red traffic lights. :o
Breaking news......Dh is an uncle :).

    Congratulations to all concerned.

I have always referred to my parents' siblings and their partners as uncles and aunts, unless there was some reason to clarify which side was the blood relationship, in which case I think the term is "aunt by marriage" rather than "aunt-in-law". The phrase "aunt-in-law" would imply my husband's aunt, I think, although I always just referred to them as "LNE's aunt".

My kids refer to my brothers as "uncle <name>" and to my brothers' wives as "aunty <name>". However, only the uncles get referred to in sentences such as "Are we going to visit any of the uncles for Christmas?" and the aunts (by marriage) are assumed to be included, as are the cousins. LNE was an only child, so I have no nieces or nephews by marriage myself.

When I was a kid, some of my friends had been brought up to refer to random adult friends of the family, or godparents or similar, as "aunty <name>" as some kind of courtesy title. I've never seen the point of that. My family do, however, continue to use "uncle <name>" etc for great-uncles, without adding the "great" bit on the beginning.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    bit annoyed today.

in feb we had a leak just inside our front door - problem was a blocked gutter combined with flat roof. there was some damage to the paintwork as a result which landlady is only now getting fixed (that doesn't bother me - it has worked in our favour in fact as the flat is on the market so it put off potential buyers).

finally she arranges for someone to come around tomorrow morning and gives them keys so they can get in. fine - we don't want to be there when they are painting and i don't care about them going in flat when i'm not there.

so about 10am this morning i get a text from OH who has the day off today. someone from the decorators turned up and asked to have a look at it. fine i suppose although they could have given us some warning. if she hadn't been there, he would no doubt have entered flat without permission.

then, the decorator texted me (without having spoken to OH) and said that the damage had been caused by a leak (no, really!) which needed to be fixed first so they would arrange to come back when that was done. i texted him straight back and said that the leak had been fixed back in feb so painting could be done tomorrow.

so, then he goes back around to flat, annoys OH again, to confirm that the walls are, indeed, dry - would have thought he could manage that the first time.

then i get another text telling me he will be starting today, so i phoned him and said no - OH is on holiday, they will have to start tomorrow.

so then, 10 minutes later, ratty text from OH as they have turned up at the flat and asked if they can come in and start as they have had a job cancelled and there is "so much to do". they need to paint about 7 square metres of wall in total - i reckon i could do the job myself in one afternoon. she said no - i'm on holiday, come back tomorrow as planned.

10 minutes later they've come back with a ladder and used it to access the balcony, and then the roof so they can check the repairs. ridiculous behaviour. OH didn't feel like she could stop them, and they have now gone. landlady is very nice and will not be happy with them either.

will have to ring him again...he is going to get both barrels.

You phone your boss and say you need the day off work to go to a funeral, you would have given more notice but you weren't told in advance. If someone really couldn't get there then they can go to see the mourners anytime in the following week.

More of a problem is arranging a funeral at 24 hours notice over a weekend when council offices are closed.

What happens if somebody dies in an accident or other circumstances requiring a post-mortem? There's no way you'd get the body within 24 hours, let alone be able to have the funeral.

Not saying your wrong chewy but it's inevitable there are going to be some inconveniences when getting repair work done on your dwelling.

The fact that your OH was there and the landlady, decorators were looking to get on with it ASAP and for you to turn round and say it's a inconvenience because OH is there seems a bit "OTT" and they would be feeling pretty frustrated.

She's Aussie after all and I bet she can look after herself ;)
