  • I have sorted out most of my pressies already, just to get a couple of bits for my teenage son so am on the lookout for deals on wireless headphones and clarins products for men.
Just to get organised with the giftwrapping now.Dearest OH had a mad clear out in the spring while I was out,he tidied the cupboard under the stairs and helpfully disposed of all my wrapping bits, oddments, ribbons, bags and boxes so I am having to start from scratch again this year.
This year I am trying to do it on the cheapest of cheap and plan to use fancy wallpaper to wrap up the grown ups gifts at least.I have seen some gorgeous red, gold, silver papers in my local B&Q,they will look very luxurious on parcels with a nice bit of velvet ribbon tied round.
Oh and the best bit is I can get decent sized wallpaper sample pieces, certainly big enough to wrap up presents,FOR FREE!!!
i bought some beautiful deep red and gold embossed wallpaper for £1 from a car boot last year and it looked very luxurious.

I havent found any this year though :(
Perhaps my hubbie should decorate the lounge so I can have some left overs? ;)
  • well my xmas buying has ground to a halt  the people i am usually stuck on for xmas i am not and the people i am not i am  It looks like they shall all have vouchers which i was planning for 1/2 of them anyways...

For once I have ideas for all the main family, and even little stocking fillers/cheap gifts with poems etc all from the forums here, thanks so much! Only unsure about what to get MIL and FIL but we ask them what they would like - but if I asked them now they would think I was a mental head (how do people do their shopping in December?? I would never find anything I needed!)

Well i had a bit of a brain wave from my mother in law today - im going to make her a 'heritage hamper' as her christmas present. She is a little scottish lady and you all may remember me tellign you i had no idea what to get her but i wanted something special for her as shes been a godsend in the 5 years ive known her. Well im doign everythign i can to help her find out about her birth mother (which ive done) and i even got as far back as her grandparents and great grandparents - and im plannign on getting a few birth/marriage certificates for her adn writing up nicely what ive found and maybe getting her a family tree done up nicely of her and her immediate family for her to frame. Plus she told me today about a few little memories she has of her family. One was a small box which was 'GIBBS TOOTHPASTE' it was in like shoe polsh tin though and it was for polishing dentures with, the other thing is that her other grandma use to alwasy send her a pair of sheep skin gloves and alwasy told her 'as long as your hands are warm you'll be ok' so im thinking if i can find one of these gibbs tins then i might get it and put it in a hamper for her, and a pair of sheep skin gloves, plus her family tree written up adn her family tree wrote out nicely. Plus a few scottish treats from home (tablet, shortbread etc) for her - what do you all think???

This is such a fantastic idea! I am inspired by it for my overseas relatives, who're also keen on tracing family history.

I go to a lot of charity shops, etc so will keep my eyes peeled for a Gibbs' tin for you too.

Hi all, Just to update you wuickly - i found some sheep skin glvoes on ebay that i like - they are brown with the white fur inside. Then i went onto google and found an antique dealer who had the gibbs tins with the actual toothpaste polishing powder inside still wrapped in like a cellophane wrapper!! so ive brought that to the grand total of............................£3.35
