sammy kaye,
thats a lovely gift idea :T
You could always add one of these journal jars and a nice notebook to it so that she can record some of her memories. Everything is on the site to print out for free.

I was in woolworths today and they had a few xmas decorations out. They had packs of gold + silver baubles for about 3 quid. HTH:hello:0 -

Well im doign everythign i can to help her find out about her birth mother (which ive done) and i even got as far back as her grandparents and great grandparents - and im plannign on getting a few birth/marriage certificates for her adn writing up nicely what ive found and maybe getting her a family tree done up nicely of her and her immediate family for her to frame. Plus she told me today about a few little memories she has of her family. One was a small box which was 'GIBBS TOOTHPASTE' it was in like shoe polsh tin though and it was for polishing dentures with, the other thing is that her other grandma use to alwasy send her a pair of sheep skin gloves and alwasy told her 'as long as your hands are warm you'll be ok' so im thinking if i can find one of these gibbs tins then i might get it and put it in a hamper for her, and a pair of sheep skin gloves, plus her family tree written up adn her family tree wrote out nicely. Plus a few scottish treats from home (tablet, shortbread etc) for her - what do you all think???

I have posted this before but seems we're on the family history subject I thought I'd post it on here again....
Well; ...........
My brother in law has an interest in his family tree but didnt know where to start soooo
I've made up a hamper (box) for christmas for him which I hope will help.
I've decorated a cardboard box with brown paper and my daughter has stencilled leaves all over it with a brown luggage label saying "Family Tree..Happy Christmas etc".
With tesco vouchers I have bought a book, Discover your roots for £3.25 of vouchers (worth £12.99) from www.infideas.com/freetime (page 39 of tesco voucher book).
I have added some blank cds (with cd labels my daughter has made up).
I've also borrowed family photos from his family and put them all onto a disc.
Brought a photo album in wh smiths sales with 25% off (£7.99).really lovely traditional sort with black pages and tissue paper between them.
Printed a few of the oldest photos off to start his book off (look on the freebie thread and you can get some printed for FREE from different sites..I used Truprint and snapfish). For this I have just took a photo of the photo but you can go to boots and use their photo copying machine (not sure how much though)
Visited his mother/father and grandfather and took a dvd of a mini interview of what they did as children and talking about there family etc. While I was there I asked them to fill in a small memory book....i.e. what was your first child hood memory, favourite sweet, favourite tv programme, pastimes as a child, etc. etc.
I have popped helpful web addresses into a little information book. (tesco 49p)
This cost me approx £15 and I'm really excited about giving it to him
Hope it helps someone else0 -
I have just thought that the family tree like from ebay would be a great pressie for a newborn baby. (something obviously for later years though lol)
I've decided to order another copy for each of my children to give when they are 210 -
SS, what a great idea for your BIL - he will be thrilled. and the same for your daughters, so much is lost through the years, so collecting information, photos etc for your children will be a priceless treasure for them.
I know someone who started a 'storybook' when her daughter was born and she filled in through the years with information about schools, favourite food, games, toys, friends etc and plenty of photos. It was part of her dd's 18th birthday present, and dd absolutely loved it (dont know how she managed to keep it a secret from dd for 18 eyars though!!)... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
