EGG - PPI Claim upheld but still no cheque!
Comments
-
I was over the moon in November 2012 when I received confirmation that my ppi claim had been upheld, all I needed to do was sign acceptance and return and cheque would be issued within 20 working days. It couldn't have come at a better time as after a few unexpected bills I was panicking about how I was going to pay for Christmas.
I immediately signed and returned first class mid November, and by calculations cheque should be received by 17 dec - perfect!
Then on the 11 dec I received a letter confirming receipt of my acceptance saying cheque would now be issued within 20 working days. I was a bit put out that they claimed it took 3 weeks to receive my first class letter and the 20 days would start again, but with Xmas fast approaching and knowing cheque was definitely on the way I borrowed some money from a friend, and promised it would be repaid as soon as cheque was received, which would be no later than 10 jan.
On the 11th I sent an email just saying cheque not received and please could it be issued urgently as deadline had already passed.
Approx a week later I sent another email, explaining situation again and also sent a letter in the post.
Thankfully I've come across a telephone number on this thread today and called them to explain I have made financial commitments based on the timescales they originally gave me. The chap was nice enough but basically said cheque had been ordered on 11 dec, but obviously hadn't been sent, so he would have to cancel it and order a we one, which will be another 20 days. I asked if it could be fast tracked in the circumstances, but was basically told no, and there was nothing he could do.
My Only option is to withdraw cash from my credit card (and put up with the associated fees and interest) To Pay back my friend, and keep my fingers crossed that this time they will send the cheque!0 -
This is most unwise. It's almost always a mistake to spend money you have yet to receive.I borrowed some money from a friend, and promised it would be repaid as soon as cheque was received, which would be no later than 10 jan.
It's also unwise to withdraw cash with a credit card, as the interest is crippling.
Can you not persuade your friend to wait until the Bank actually pays up and perhaps offer him/her some kind of interest payment for doing so?0 -

The turnaround time from cheque being ordered to it landing on doorstep seems to be around a week and a half, from what I have gathered in these forums (that's also how long mine took), so hopefully it should be with you soon.0 -
In hindsight you are of course right
there is no way I would have borrowed money, or indeed splashed out as much as I did, if I was in any doubt the money was guaranteed and on its way, but after receiving their confirmation letter I was content to take their word for it. More fool me
Unfortunately I have no choice but to repay money now, or she'll end up incurring charges of her own.
Hopefully someone will read this and learn from my mistake, DONT SPEND THE MONEY UNTIL ITS IN YOUR BANK!!0 -

Hello there. This is my first post on this site but have read a few others and makes for interesting reading.
I have written to Canada Square operations back in end of November last year, with my enquiry. After receiving no reply, I sent a letter to ask if they had received my first one. This time I sent it by recorded delivery on the 18th Jan. Right up to now, when I check the track & trace, it states it's 'on the way' - in other words, it hasn't been delivered or signed for. I have tried calling Royal Mail, but it's obvious they don't want to talk to you, as they send you on an automated goosechase, with menu after menu, with not a human being at the end of it, to speak to. So frustrating!!! I'm doing as Martin constantly states, by contacting the company, but what happens then if they decide just not to answer or plead ignorance? A total disgrace, that in this day in age, you can't even get to speak to someone, and that every organisation seems to be putting up an automated brick wall to put people off.0 -
Just found out (eventually) via Royal Mail customer services, that my Recorded Delivery was delivered on the 21st Jan (even though it didn't state it on the website). What is the next step if you still don't hear anything back from these people?
Thanks.0 -
Similar issue here - further to my earlier post about sending my acceptance off in November, I did get a reply from them on 11th Jan claiming that they had only just received it that day! Likely story... and today I've had a letter dated 15th Jan confirming it will now be 20 days so I'm not best pleased. And just like Honey05, I've got a note in my diary to call them in exactly 20 days!
Woohoo! My cheque arrived on Friday, has been banked, so very ,uch looking forward to being £2,700ish richer come this weekend. It might have taken 3 months from sending the acceptance but it was worth the wait. Don't give up, people

After receiving a letter from Canada Square Operations in December about PPI on an Egg loan, I didn't know that PPI had been included so sent the form off, I have now received a letter back to say that my claim has been up held and they have made an offer of compensation.
How do I know if the offer is a good one if I dont have any details of the loan as it was settled early a good few years ago, so I don't have any paper work and am not sure what i have paid for, but the settlement looks prety crap considering I didnt know it was on. So do I complain to them again or is it straight to the FOS....??0 -
You can't simply say that's "pretty crap" and demand that they pay you more!As it was settled early a good few years ago, .. I don't have any paper work ...not sure what i have paid
If you had documentary evidence to show that you paid more than they are offering then you would be able to complain.
Without this evidence (and bearing in mind that the loan was settled early, meaning a rebate was applied to your PPI) going back to them is a waste of time.
FOS won't overturn their offer without evidence either.0
