What's the deal?
Mobile banking operator, Monilink, is offering a free £10 to all new users that sign up to it's service before the 30 June 2007. It's possible to sign up, use one service (at the worst it'll cost you 25p) and then simply wait for the £10 to appear in your bank account.
Who can do it?
The free tenner is available to the first 30,000 people signing up before 30 June 2007. To be eligible, you must have both a
- A Bank account with: Alliance & Leicester, First Direct or HSBC (excludes basic bank accounts).
- A java compatible phone (most phones from the last few years are fine). The phone can be PAYG or contract phone with T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone, Virgin Mobile, Tesco Mobile and 3. The service is available to Orange customers, though with this network, there is a data charge for using or downloading the information (at your standard data tariff), but it shouldn't be too costly if you're just grabbing the tenner.
How to get the free £10
The free ten pounds is for those who register (which is free) on Monilink's website and use any service. There are two main services on offer:
- Check your bank balance: You can check your balance for 20p or see details of the last six transactions for 25p
- Top up your Pay-As-You-Go Mobile. You can top up the mobile direct from your bank account at no charge.
Things to watch out for
- Users must be over 12 years old and reside in the UK
- There are a few known problems trying to access this service with certain mobile phones, so first double check any reported issues listed on Monilink's website
- Additional charges may be applied if you use the service whilst abroad

Hey JenyKing,
It sounds like you haven't got the correct WAP/GPRS settings in your phone there is help for your handset on their website here:
http://www.monilink.co.uk/monilinkinfo/device/showModelInfoForOperator.do?id=1
or
text bank to 84447 and it will skip that process - you will have to register via your handset rather than the website which takes a bit longer. Give me a shout if you get stuck I have a bit of knowledge when it comes to mobile phones!

Will give it a go cheers.

Hi.
Used the MONILINK. Downloaded the HSBC Account setup using Sony Ericsson W900i and Vodafone.
Put the download in the Applications directory, and after using it to make its setting changes,.... got the "Operation Failed" when I tried to access it again.
Restarted the phone, and it:
[1] lost my default Theme settings - restored this.
[2] lost my Games - I had loads - I now have nowt.
[3] lost my existing applications - zilch.
At least my contacts, photos and videos are unharmed.
Use with caution.0 -
