Bank with A&L, NatWest, RBS, HSBC, First Direct and Ulster Bank? Free tenner!

Options
Update Note 2 Jan: This deal was supposed to close on 31 Dec, yet Monilink has confirmed it's been extended to 31 January

What's the deal?

Mobile banking services operator, Monilink, is offering a free £10 to all new users that sign up to it's service. It's possible to sign up, use one service and then simply wait for the £10 to appear in your bank account.

Who can do it?

The free tenner is available to the first 100,000 people signing up before 31 December 2007. To be eligible, you must have both
  • A Bank account with: NatWest, RBS, HSBC, First Direct, Alliance & Leicester and Ulster Bank (excludes basic bank accounts).
  • A java compatible phone (most phones from the last few years are fine). The phone can be PAYG or contract phone with T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone, Virgin Mobile, Tesco Mobile, Orange and 3. The service is available to Orange & Virgin customers, though then there is a data charge for using or downloading the information (at your standard data tariff), but it shouldn't be too costly if you're just grabbing the tenner.
For more info regarding eligibility of this offer, see Monilink's Ts & Cs.

How to get the free £10

You get the £10 after registering (for free) on Monilink's website and using any service. There are two main services on offer:
  • Check your bank balance: You can usually check your balance for 20p or see details of the last six transactions for 25p; yet its currently free till the end of the year.
  • Top up your Pay-As-You-Go Mobile. You can top up the mobile direct from your bank account at no charge.
Use either of these services and 35 days later the free £10 should be in your account. After that it's up to you whether you use the service again, there's no service charge.

Things to watch out for
  • Users must be over 12 years old and reside in the UK
  • There are a few known problems trying to access this service with certain mobile phones, so first double check any reported issues listed on Monilink's website

  • Additional charges may be applied if you use the service whilst abroad

  • Looks like www.monilink.co.uk have relaunched their offer of £10 to customers who sign-up and use their mobile phone banking service.

The service allows you free and secure access to your account balance, perform mini statments and top-up pay as you go mobile phones.

I signed up for the service first time around so I'm unable to bag myself another £10 :(

    1. Register and download the mobile phone banking service at www.monilink.co.uk

    2. Receive an activation code through the post.

    3. Use the service by performing a free balance enquiry, mini statement or Top-Up and £10 will then be credited into your current account.

    Thanks,
    BoomBoom

Don't think I will put any bank details in those links, I was wondering if this was spam but not sure.

Also the OP is new here (9) another thing that made me think hard before not taking any action.

Im sure all those banks have their own telephone banking, why go through a third party?

If it is fraud and you've given them your details I suspect you would be liable for the loss.

This is for mobile phones, so that you can get your balance etc. on screen without calling anyone or anything.

Still very wary, anyone else done it?

  • Be wary, i won't be signing up for the Alliance & Leicester one thats running at the moment either, ask yourself this...........
