Just remember there is no such thing as a HDMI 1.4 Cable. Its the ports that have the specification.

    (from Wiki)
    defined for HDMI in general
Standard HDMI Cable – up to 1080i and 720p
    Standard HDMI Cable with Ethernet
    Automotive HDMI Cable
High Speed HDMI Cable – 1080p, 4K, 3D and deep color
High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet

I also heard from a source that the HDMI i should be looking for must be "future proof".
Would this 'source' be a sales adviser?

No, i don't want to buy a £30 or £50 cable. And nothing is wrong with your recommendations. Ok if it has makes no difference between a cheap one and a high-end expensive one then i'll buy the cheap one. But a damn good cheap one which isn't generic and at least have a brand name.
  • This one is perfect for your requirement. Look at the customer reviews.

  • Aside from that one anything else please? (not a generic one though)
  • What's wrong with that one? What's to lose from trying it at £2.49 delivered? You may be pleasantly surprised.

you could google your issue and see the hundreds of pages which say that it doesn't make any difference using the expensive ones or the cheap ones, you could also read all of the advice given in this thread and come to the conclusion that it makes no difference at all, or you could just go and buy this one and tell everyone how amazing it is...

    Hi there!

I've just bought a new PS3 this week and i wanted to ask of any recommendations for a really good HDMI cable for that near-perfect sound & picture quality?

Does the cable need to be gold-plated and all those fancy technical giberish terms that you feel makes it stand-out?

    Please advice.

I got mine from ebay 99p free delivery.

has not failed me yet. (2 years on).

That one will do you fine. The sole reason you need to spend any more is if you need a longer cable. Buying a 'brand name' is simply throwing money away in comparison.
