Saw a £29.99 original Sony 1M HDMI cable. I'm sorry to be such a cynic but i always thought being a gold-plated and magnetically shielded cable will always have a "slight" advantage over others.0

What advantage?
That is exactly what they want you to think so you will spend the money.
Magnetically shielded well that depends, I have a computer, PS3, Home theatre, a TV and a couple of wall sockets and multi surge protectors behind it, I've been using three non magnetically shielded HDMI cables for several years now with absolutely no problems, if anyone would need a magnetically shielded cable you would think it would be me.0 -
There are only two types of people who will insist you get a better signal with a more expensive HDMI;
(1) People who are trying to sell you the more expensive cable
(2) Mugs who have already bought the more expensive ones and are trying to justify the expense to themselves. Look up "denial" for more details.
There are only two occasions when it's worthwhile CONSIDERING spending more than a pound on an HDMI cable.
(1) When you need one more than a metre long (the poundshop ones are rarely any longer).
(2) If you're going to be plugging in and out A LOT. The more expensive ones have a slightly better build quality and will last a bit longer. HOWEVER you'll most likely still be better off buying 5 replacement cables at £1 each than spending £6 straight off and you certainly WON'T EVER get 35 times the life from a £35 cable.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -

You're a mug and you've been had.
You can use a £1000 Monster Cables HDMI cable and compare it to a £1 Poundland one using the best test equipment you can possibly find and you'll not see any difference at all on the display or from the audio.
Other absolute rip offs in the audio video world consist of:
Gold plated optical cables.
Oxygen Free speaker cable.
Charging a premium for 1080p on any TV under 40 inch.0 -
Poppellerant.......I'm no ones fool.
Notmyrealname.... I'm no mug.
I do like you people who gob off behind a computer. So you have never paid more for something that you could of got cheaper somewhere else. It has done the job I wanted it to do. Unlike people like you I am able to help and advise people without slagging them off as I say behind a computer.End Of.0 -

The Channel 5 "The Gadget Show" did a review of cables in one of their shows. They found there was no difference between the cheap and dearest cables. I assume its still available to view on their website.0 -

I bought one of the poundshop ones, it didn't work with the surround sound, so I spent a bit more.
£2 from Amazon, works perfectly.0
