Not unless you take steps to eliminate mains born interference first, fortunately you can get shielded mains cables for a modest £50.

I'm not an expert but i always thought gold has an advantage because it prevents corrosion and a good conductor.
The 24k gold that is used as a selling point for HDMI cables does not form any part of the electrical connection; it is used to plate the shroud that provides form and rigidity to the plug, which can also be made out of nickel, plastic or other robust materials. How many gold-plated RJ45 plugs do you see?
For HDMI the signal (the bit that needs to be conductive) is passed through a 19-pin grid arrangement.604!0 -

So, if all of these sugar-coated features are "gimmicks" then that means it is false advertising and they could be prosecuted for that isn't it?
Its like saying some of Android OS burst mode camera features or a Volvo V40's HUD are gimmicks?0 -
no it's not, you are at it again....
the features are still features - what everyone is telling you is that they don't make any noticable difference for your application, now go and spend all your money on a cable! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The OTHER and ONLY other time you may need a more expensive cable is if you want to use ARC. That's an extra feature some cables may have that simply isn't physically present on some of the cheaper cables. These cables are usually marketed as 3D cables, which in itself, it doesn't matter what cable you use, but they also tend to have ARC and be 1.4 cables rather than 1.3 standard.
The £2 one I bought works with the ARC, which is why I upgraded from a £1 one.0 -
Future proofing - buy a cable now for £1. It doesn't say what it does or doesn't do (1.4 spec for example with ARC and 3D). It works now.
In the future, it doesn't work. Go and buy another £1 cable *made in the FUTURE*. It works. You've spent £2.
OR
Buy a £20 future proof cable now. That will cost £18 extra. Up to you.
Buy the cheap one first, and the expensive one second if the first one doesn't work. There IS a difference between some cheap cables and some expensive ones, but they mostly don't matter, and the differences are getting smaller.0 -

Totally agree unless you are forced to take a chance because you want to chase terminated cables into walls but it'll always be a bit of a gamble, e.g. VGA --> DVI --> HDMI --> Display Port --> ???604!0
