A cheap cable will work just as well as a really expensive one. I went to some Monster training from work to learn about some monster cables we may or may not be selling. The guy doing the training said how there's less signal loss and so on with Monster cables, and put their cable vs a competitor into some sort of machine that "proved" this to be the case.
When asked what appreciable difference it makes, he said that it reduced artifacting and whatnot.
He eventually saved in that the normal human eye wouldn't notice it, and you'd really need a computer to pinpoint the odd one or two pixels that may be affected.
As said previously, if you're going over a long distance you may need a better cable, or if you're unplugging a lot, because the build quality and resilience of a cheap cable may not be so good.
I paid £2 (inc postage) from Amazon for a cable that worked like a dream. I unplugged it for perhaps the 10th time in its life, and it came apart in my hands like it was made of toffee. My only concern was how to get the metal end out of my TV, but i managed it without too much hassle.
A more expensive cable may have survived such trifling matters of unplugging.
The OTHER and ONLY other time you may need a more expensive cable is if you want to use ARC. That's an extra feature some cables may have that simply isn't physically present on some of the cheaper cables. These cables are usually marketed as 3D cables, which in itself, it doesn't matter what cable you use, but they also tend to have ARC and be 1.4 cables rather than 1.3 standard.0 -
I paid £6.50 for mine  ........
.......it is a 10m one.
Works perfectly for my needs.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I'm not an expert but i always thought gold has an advantage because it prevents corrosion and a good conductor. Haven't seen any silver-plated HDMI cables around though.
Everyone kept saying a £1 cable "works fine" but all of us have different setups/equipments, etc.
I also heard from a source that the HDMI i should be looking for must be "future proof". Meaning it has to have features such as this ARC, being high-speed, has ethernet, double (or triple) insulated and the version should be 1.4 at least.
That makes sense isn't it?
I have a 5-year old full 1080p HD LCD by Sony which i plan to replace in the next 12 months.0 -
if the source is going to be the ps3 a cheap cable will be fine as the ps3 doesn't require any of the features you've mentioned, are you actually looking for a cable or just trolling? I've seen a few of your threads where you clearly already have an opinion and don't want to take any of the advice given (apart from that matches your own ideas)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. This "trolling" thing isn't fair. I am here to ask advice (and sometimes express what i do know so far) nothing more. I AM NOT A TROLL. (i hope that computes!)
I understand that my PS3 might not "need" those features but don't you think some of those features (like double/triple/quad shielding, 24K gold plating, ARC, high speed, etc.) would at least be helpful in some way?0 -

No, but I expect you will (eventually) purchase a 'high specification' expensive cable anyway. How do I add a signature?0
