  • I've been single for a long time but I make the most out of any situation and try not to let things get me down. I am perfectly happy on my own and enjoy my own company alot, cause let's face it I am AWESOME! Haha!

If the idea of telling somebody new about your situation is getting you down then take a time out. It's going to do you good to be focussed on yourself for a while and enjoy just living with no one to depend on or worry about. If you happen to stumble upon a nice girl along the way so be it, but If I was you I wouldn't go out of my way to find someone just because i'm 30 and should be settling down. I'm a firm believer that it'll happen when it's supposed to.

I do enjoy my own company but I have always been use to go out most weekends and I'm missing that at the moment, I know it's my own fault but that doesn't make it any easier!

The thing that winds me up the most is to have to go along to things where everyone else is with their other half, it just reminds me of how single I am!

  • Hi, I'm new to the forum and saw this post. Like a few of you I am staying single while paying off debt. Partly because I'll spend more money going out etc to meet someone, and partly because I want to 'fix' this situation a bit before inflicting it on anyone else! My ex boyfriend was far more solvent than I am, and it was difficult sometimes when he wanted to do something I couldn't afford. I'd rather be happy and able to enjoy my money when/if I find someone :D

    Welcome to the thread barlafumble.

Are you one of the young ones or part of the group that can no longer go on 18-30's holidays?

I've just come across this thread and i'm in the same position as many others. Currently single and in approx £25,000 worth of debt thanks in part to my ex (but partly my fault also!) I decided that 2013 was the year i'm going to take back control.

It's a bit of a struggle and I've set a target of £15,000 by the end of the year BUT i do love being back in total control of my finances. Living on your own can be frustrating - not getting to do/ go where others can but to be honest i'm sick and tired of just "surviving" on the money I make. I want rid of this debt so that I can start enjoying myself again and if it takes a year or 2 then so be it. Like others I want to be rid of this debt before I start a new relationship... It's my mess and I need to clear it up before I inflict it on another person!

It's not easy managing my money properly, I started out with the best of intentions (logging everything i make & spend etc) but I have to admit i sometimes go off track. I've not been very good with money this month but I'm now ebaying like crazy to get myself back into a better position before pay day :o this is something I wouldn't have done before, I would probably just have relied on my overdraft and bought something nice to cheer myself up! :p

We're all in this together! We may not have another half to help us along but we also don't have another half to spend our hard earned debt free pennies either! :rotfl:

Welcome Tia, to what is now becoming the mass ranks of SADs!

Is your target to pay off £15000 by the end of the year or have your total debt down to £15000?

So glad I found this thread! Can definitely echo the thoughts of so many of you having read through it!

What I'm finding hard is that all of your friends assume that you NEED to be with someone, and that you can't possibly survive alone...

All i want right now is to pay off my credit card (not scarily high, but much higher than I want it to be) and then to save up for a holiday somewhere hot!

Can I ask a silly question, how do people manage to pay off such large amounts per year like 15/20k etc? I've had this £2k lingering for ages and I'll be damned if I can find money to pay it off quicker! Would love some tips to help me pay it off/find money to pay it off quicker and perhaps carry on the good habits and possibly save some?

Muhren I agree that you need to wait until date three at least.. let her get hooked on you and who you are not your past. Date one would freak her out and like you said if you don't want to see her again why go through the pain or embarrassment of telling her!

And yes if you are in a position where you are paying things back, living with parents for the greater good and dealing with the issue head on then there is nothing to bawk at...everyone has skeletons! I'd rather deal with someone's debt than someone's kids...:rotfl:

KrusyLouise - make a spend diary and see exactly where all the money is going. I cut my food spends RIGHT down to £80 a month, no haircuts (I do them myself:p), no new clothes for over a year bar one stupid dress that was way too expensive, no accessories..just cut down, destroy and cancel everything you don't need! Use up all your beauty products before stepping foot in Boots... Tesco do soap for 11p you know!..:T

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".

    Thanks Kat,

Yeah I've cut down on a few things, I buy the cheap liquid hand wash and decant it into c@rex bottles, I buy bread rolls reduced and freeze them and defrost as and when, I bake our cakes and treats, I rang up mobile provider and got £10 reduction every month for remainder of contract (14months) it's just DD and I and we don't eat a great deal and DD would live off pasta with cheese if I'd let her, morrisons value pasta of course. I buy the aldi super six and create meals around that as and when.

Just not sure what else I can do! I'm trying...
