Welcome to the SAD thread Laurel.

You sound like you have had a bit of a bad time of it of late but glad you are now feeling a lot better about things.

As I have found it will get easier over time, I have only made one payment off my debt so far but it does feel good to know that I am chipping away at it.

Is anyone planning to send any Valentine's Day cards?

I have three planned - but one is to my friend in Afghanistan.

You really shouldn't have, I'll be fine!!!

Just spotted this thread so thought I'd pop in and say hello, outing myself as a SAD in the process. Oh well!

Yep, me too. 40 and been single for just over a year. My wife walked out a week before Christmas 2011, taking the kids, after first having two affairs (that I know of), and conning me out of £5000 (again that I know of) to help finance her new life. Problem is that I still love her which makes it difficult to meet anyone else. I don't think I'll get over her until I'm in a new relationship, but I cant start a new relationship while I still have these feelings for my ex. Its a vicious circle.

I realise that I'm probably massively outnumbered by females on this thread, but I do find it completely unfair that what she did counts for nothing in the eyes of the courts (in my case at least). Simply because she's the mother she gets to keep the kids. Then because she has the kids, she's entitled to over half of everything. I'll never deprive the kids, but I do feel angry that I'm the victim of what she did, and yet the only one to suffer the subsequent consequences is me.

No offence intended to any females who have suffered at the hands of their male ex's, but I'm simply speaking from my experiences in my situation.

Anyway, onwards and upwards, hopefully 2013 is the year I get things sorted out. Hopefully the divorce will go through and I'll have some certainty about whether I still have a job (I'm currently on notice of redundancy, but hoping to get kept on in a different role), get to stay on in the house or have to move out, and get to sort out my finances. My three steps to heaven for 2013
Debt free since December 2015. It can be done

I completely agree with the fact that the courts shows a huge bias towards women in this situation and needs to be looked at. Especially in your case where it looks like your wife is to blame for the break up, granted I have only heard one side of the story, but why should it be deemed that the female is always the correct parent to look after the kids?
Having said that though the children do have to come first and like you say you do not want to deprive them. It must be a very difficult situation which I hope you manage to come to terms with over time.

    Hi,

I'm a SAD Too - I actually find dealing with my debt and one income much easier than if things were mutiplied by 2. Of course it would be nice to have someone to half the rent with !!
