  • I really should spend more time on this thread, I'm single and rather like it at the minute :) And the bonus is my christmas bill has shot down a MASSIVE amount since I don't have "the other" family to buy for anymore! :):)

Mine has shot down since the ex left too PLUS ive put my foot down and said im not willing to spend £300 on a particular family..... while they spend £100 on me for example.

Funnily enough, they now want to spend significantly less this year now!
    Total Debt: was £8,400 / now £0

    2013 SAVINGS - £605 / £12,000
  • Recently single - divorce.
    I have wracked up a mammoth £26367

    The Reason
A lot of it was incurred when I with the ex, if only I hadn't got married I'd be better off :p. Job downgraded, so went from being an inhouse graphic designer to receptionist so lost £5000 salary overnight.

Kept crappy job as we were trying for a child, and I thought I'd be on maternity leave. But, I'm fighting my way through. Got a recent pay rise from crappy day job.

    The Changes I'm Making

Started a small business that is making me at present an addition £300-400 per month, and I am pushing this as much as I can as I hope to gain an additional £1000 per month from the sideline.

It is tough, but I'm glad to be facing it, other than this I have been attending debting meetings and I'm working on getting more freelance projects. I keep a spending diary - I've cut my budget back to the bone, and I've saved £1400 for my debt snowball.

I'm doing some training to hopefully switch day jobs, until the business takes off and earns some more money so if I do that it will change my hourly income. Cut up every single credit card that I have bar 2, bracing myself!

I don't eat out, batch cook, have stopped buying clothes - it's hard, but seeing the money building up for my debt snowball has been wonderful and affirming. Ebaying like crazy that has made me a tidy sum too!

It's tough but having an online community and actual real life people to speak to has made the difference. I will get there in the end! I'm determined!

Well done! Sounds like youre really on your way.
For what its worth, my debt is down to my ex also. The way i loo at it - he may have cost me a fortune, but Karma will get him eventually, AND I got custody of our friends....worth a lot more than money in my opinion
In terms of the small business - if you make gifts, let me know - ive resolved to buy as many xmas presents as I can from small businesses advertising through facebook etc!

Keep going - sounds like youre doing GREAT! x

I would like that very traditional light gold/ice white shabby chic kind of look? I also need a pink stocking for a new baby (first xmas) with her name on?
This year heralds an entirely new "look" for xmas - its going to be my one treat this year, and all budgeted for! - my ex preferred VERY non traditional decorations for xmas.....This year its all about me! :D
    Do you have any pics?

    Good for you!
Putting a foot down has such a good feeling doesn't it?

Funnily enough, I can spend 3 times more on my daughter now as my ex was very difficult about me spending money on her (and it's her I SHOULD me spending money on) so its all worked out well for everybody!
