hello and thank you so much for the invite to this thread. I'm not in any debt (thankfully) but have been in the past and so am keen to avoid getting there again.

I just find it so depressing being single. I've joined dating websites but I live on a rock and so the distance is a major issue for most.

Just want to try to avoid alcohol and spending to make myself feel better as that isn't the answer
I want to be a writer
  • Hi everyone, can I join too please?

I've been reading this thread with interest and am loving the enthusiasm!

I am SAD too and having a bit of a midlife crisis at the moment - but in a good way :rotfl:

I've quit smoking after 30 years of 20-a-day and am absolutely determined that I will NOT start again; have lost 3lb of my 3 stone weight loss target (it is only week 1 ;)) and have now decided that starting with next months pay packet I will try and be debt free!
This, I fear, will be even harder than quitting smoking as I love spending however I have a personal ambition that I want to achieve and need to be debt free and have some savings (around £1k). I am hoping you as my fellow SADs will keep me motivated!
    Stopped smoking 20th October 2012 :D

This year I will have something that resembles a garden and not a building site!
  • Hello all S.A.Ds,

How are you? Enjoying the weekend? I am certainly enjoying my lazy Sunday after busy past few days. On a mission with decluttering, cleaning, washing, shredding and so on...but veeeery satisfying and liberating :j. And saving or at least not spending too much ;). Fancy lots of things (millionaire's cake would be fab at this very moment :A), but have to shout at that green monster to go away...and sometimes it listens :D...
    Great week everybody.

Big welcome Archiebear! Had you considered breaking your debt up into blocks? Then every time you achieve a block, you get £X to spend on something you WANT for yourself as a reward?

And maybe dont "TRY" to be debt free. Tell yourself FIRMLY that from next paypacket you ARE going to become debt free. Make a firm commitment to do this, whether it takes 24 months, or 24 years. You CAN do this, and you will have loads of support on here! x

I've decided that lifes for living if i meet someone and have the family i've always dreamed off - great - if i don't - i want to make sure I gave life my everything and have my life filled with memories..not sat around waiting for someone to fill that space... besides apparently thats when you are more likely to meet someone! :rotfl:

  • Hi to other newbies

falldown7timesgetup8 and Loopylou1 you are both right... so I will say it publicly...I WILL become debt free. There I said it. (And breathe!)

Haven't got anything to sell as I started from fresh when splitting from ex so don't have any 'clutter'.

There is no opportunity for overtime (I am salaried) and due to my odd working hours it would be nigh on impossible to fit in a second job. I am going to join sw*gbucks to earn a little extra though

I also never have money left at the end of the month - hence the overdraft but will make little savings here and there to pay extra off debts. Going to start with CC.

I will pay a minimum of £10 into my savers account each month.

    Any other ideas gratefully received!!

  • Evening all, hope you don't mind another male joining the chat.

I'm 29 and been single for a while. Felt like I was the only one in this kind of situation (I know how silly that sounds) so it's nice to know there are a lot of people out there willing to give each other support :)

I got myself into roughly £26k of debt  as a result of gambling and depression following a very rough period. Lost my mum and gf in a short time :(
Feel like I've moved on a great deal the last few years but still have my down days. Such as today, which is why I'm posting this.Even just typing this makes me feel better so thanks to Loopy for starting this thread.

I realise I'm probably rambling now so I'll cut this short. Hope we can all meet our goals and carry on supporting each other. Btw this is me 'popping my posting cherry'. Feels a it strange lol but it's about time I stopped lurking ha
