    Hi All
I am with scottish power and went on the price comparison site selected on this site. And EDF came out as the cheapest. I then listen to Radio 2 the next day and find out that EDF are one of two companies who havent reduced their gas. So how are they the cheapest?
Totally confused and dont know wheter to cancel my switch.

radio 2 are referring to standard prices all companies have new online tariffs and have done for around a month. Also EDF and Scot Power will be dropping (standard tariff) prices next week according to todays guardian after recent bad publicity has forced them to do so.
  • As an EDF Standard Dual Fuel customer I thought I would see if it could be bettered. It could, by the same company! I could save over £100 a year with their online account. Great I have not had any problems with the company. However when I tried to switch I could not change accounts within the company - Simply Switch told me to pretend I was with another company then I could get on to the EDF website - worked fine I applied for the online account, but today I was told by EDF customer services that there was no way to transfer internally and that I would have to sign with another supplier then switch back!!
Have you ever heard a company recomend that you join their competiters!! Utterly ridiculous! The difference in savings is not sufficient for the trouble involved. I will switch but not bother to switch back to EDF.

    Hi Martin,

I am with Swalec Easywarm, and their current tariff requires me to pay £84.00 per month. I have rung them regarding any reduction in price with the drop in gas/oil prices. The answer is no reduction planned.

Would appreciate hering whether you will get any info that might be of interest to me and other easywarm customers.

    Hi Martin,

Can you give me the calculation to convert my gas meter readings over a period to Kwh. I need to check my usage as supplied by my provider Easywarm

Susanbur, I believe nPower used to do that, although I'm not sure if they still do. Some other companies will only let you switch if you threaten to leave. At the end of the day they don't actually want too many customers on these tariffs as the margins are low, they are mostly designed just to take people away from their competitors and also for retention if necessary.

parrye, do you have a metric or imperal meter?
  • I've been with Scottish Power for a few years now and, even with regular checks and price rises, they have been one of, if not the, best provider... but....

This obviously depends on which tariff you're on but.... (again!), what really annoys me is, depending on which site you use you get a completely different price comparison

I've checked most of the switching sites and the major providers and they all come out with completely different recommendations!!!!!

Personally, I'm going to stay with Scottish Power, which I'm sure a lot of people may not aprove off, but after lots of calculations this seems to be the best solution. Of couse this all depends on personal circumstances.

Does anybody know if the price comparison sites can handle non-domestic tariffs? Small businesses (and I do mean small!) need to count the pennies too, and it would be a big help & time-saver if I could view different tariffs or get quotes all in the same place.
I don't think anyone's looked at our tariff since 2003, so it's quite likely there's a cheaper supplier/tariff out there somewhere.
    Help please.

I'm just switching suppliers and have now got a letter to say that my gas is delivered via a pipe network partly owned by an Independant Gas Transportation Company which means my bill will cost an extra £30 a year.
They say these IGT networks are found on housing developments built since 1995 - does anyone have any idea why new developments are using these networks. Makes it hard to get a good price comparison when switching, as I've only found about this afterwards. :(

  • IN march i switched from powergen to npower saving £25 a month. £60 back after 12 months. However this week i have just signed up with edf. They are doing a promotion in my sainsburys shop. They are saving me a further £7 a month, and are giving 5000 points to new customers and 500 every month. Now this i can live with.
